Joe needs paydays and Carl ain't that! Yes, he could fight Carl, but he needs legacy defining fights and Carl isn't an established "name" yet.Wales wrote:I think Joe V carl is a realistic prospect should Joe get past this gimme next sat <ahem>
As I said in another thread, has to be Hopkins and possibly the winner of Taylor/Pavlik. Carl v Joe is a domestic fight that HBO probably won't touch.

Toe to toe!rhino222 wrote:froch turned down warrens stupid options which showed warren had no faith in his man, froch would fight calzaghe winner takes all. im not saying froch would win but it would be a toe to toe slugfest, best chin wins !!Max Molyneux wrote:It was Froch who turned down Calzaghe.
Joe would outbox Froch easily with the superior skills and hand speed.
Froch mouths off about his right uppercut but he's too egotistic to know It's a single overhand straight right that does It. Joe would see It coming.
What options? Froch only said It was derisory.

Where the smeg would they get 1.6 million from?
Ok, if your really interested here is the bona-fide turn of events.
Not sure of the medium (fax, text or email) but basically an offer of £_ _K landed mid week for Carl to fight Joe on a SN show. Literally a 'one liner'.
They responded straight away " forget the money for the moment, we're cool with that - what we want is the terms and conditions of the contract - send it over and if its satisfactory we'll sign it and send it back within the hour "
Silence.
Saturday a text lands - " £_ _ _K last offer. "
They said again - SEND THE CONTRACT !!! money aint the discussion here, please just send it through.
Low and behold, the next day in the NOTW it reads 'Froch turns down fight"

Personally i dont think they will ever fight, unless Joe loses against Kessler, then it may be made - but by then Froch will prob get a crack himself at Kessler.
I think it was this type of negotiating that blew out the Enzo - Haye fight. Not that i have the detail on that personally, just what i kept hearing.
Funny now, how the board have started stepping in to squash opponents named on the Cardiff undercard, such is their poor quality.
Fans are being denied great match ups because of this and its very sad ?
The americans have realised that push-over fights just wont sell anymore - their public demand credible fights and if they dont get them, they vote with their PPV buys dont they.
It would seem that once the headline has been sold to a TV station, the rest of the event is constructed with the cheapest purses to maximise profit. Profit isn't a dirty word - but Booby gunn fights, combined with fighters named then pulled from cards leaves joe public weary of committing until the very last week.
I feel especially for Enzo, who must train like a beast to only get a chubby canadian to demolish in a round.
Im truly grateful that the kessler fight was made - i think its great for Calzaghe and great for boxing - but even this match-up was denounced as being a dud on the Calzaghe website in an official letter to Team Kessler stating that 'he wasn't a big enough name' ...before then fighting Manfredo.
I suppose its the reason why some elements of the UK are looking for joe to fall in the next fight, in the hope that he has to fight live opponents again for the next couple of years.
In truth, if Joe is succesful, i really cant get overly excited by the thought of a spoiling Hopkins in the other corner - i'd prefer a Pavlik match up myself.
That b-hop fight should have been ready in principal straight after the Lacy fight - but Joe's momentum was quickly lost during his outings against Bika & Man frodo.
I struggle to swallow why the likes of Hopkins, Winky Wright, Trinidad, Glen Johnson, Antonio Tarver & Roy Jones have all fought one another...several times in some cases....... and yet Joe has never fought ONE of them.
I read that 'Hopkins doubled his demand' yadda yadda.... lest not forget Joe pulled out of 3 x Glen Johnson match ups - do you remember Glen Johnson talking about Calzaghe prior to his last Clinton Woods fight?
"I dont know why Joe pulled out 3 times" Johnson said.
"Only he knows".
And the crying shame is that Joe would HAMMER most of those names.

Frank can be a right bell end at times. I reckon the sole purpose of the text was so that he could write that Froch turned down the fight in his NOTW column. Who's going to sign a contract when they don't know the details of it or if it even includes options??? Frank is dying to get his hands on Carl Froch.G0mez wrote:Ok, if your really interested here is the bona-fide turn of events.

Carl needs to beat a world class opponent really before they start slating Calzaghe. Yes Joe has been fighting a lot of rubbish recently but he is taking on his closet rival next and it's not like Froch has been tearing his way through the likes on Inkin, Mundane, Bute, Lacy etc to force his hand. I know Carl has been injured a lot but he shouldn't assume he automatically deserves a shot at Joe for beating some C level fighters in good fashion and being British. For me this Reid fight is one huge waste of time, Froch is no spring chicken and really needs to get a move on.
Also if Froch v Calzaghe was to happen now, Joe would win a wide UD

That can be deceiving sometimes.
http://jp.dk/sport/kessler-calzaghe/article1145090.ece
That translate Into Froch picks Calzaghe to win.
Can Gomez explain where Hennessey would of got 1.6 million from to offer a Froch match up to Calzaghe?

That is my opinion, people can predict things differently. I think Calzaghe's workrate, solid chin, speed and skills coupled with Froch poor defence and static feet make Calzaghe a fairly comfortable winner. I'm not sure Froch would beat Lacy to be honest.
But the best way to find out isn't by any of us guessing obviously. But although i'm a Froch and Witter fan, it is amusing that some people are still whining about them fighting Hatton and Calzaghe, they are fighting the best in the world and those two need to go about finding their own route to the top (which Witter now seems to be doing)

Piss off! You must be a hardcore Froch nuthugger to type out that drivel...... show some self respect.rhino222 wrote:froch turned down warrens stupid options which showed warren had no faith in his man, froch would fight calzaghe winner takes all. im not saying froch would win but it would be a toe to toe slugfest, best chin wins !!Max Molyneux wrote:It was Froch who turned down Calzaghe.
Froch would do well to win a round!
