Mger Mkrtchyan gets his crack at WBO super-middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe on February 21 in Cardiff. Calzaghe was due to fight the Armenian earlier this month, but pulled out with flu.

i know allegedly said in the enzo interview that calzaghe is going to fight his manatory.

i expect this is calzaghe fight plan for 2004

1 Mger Mkrtchyan
2 Summer fight
3 another fight

Wow, Calzaghe is really building on the great fights he had with Brewer and the other guy (name escapes me) NOT!

Why doesn't he give up this meaningless strap and persue the showdowns that would define his lacklustre career?

I presume you mean 2004 and 2005.

One thing that disappoints me about Joe is the standard of opposition he has fought since Brewer (What Terry elaborated on):

Jiminez
Pudwill
Mitchell (When he didn't have a Legit belt)
And now Mkrtchyan!

Come on Joe, you are wasting your prime on these guys!

It's a true tragedy if they can eventually chase even the most rabid of fans (ME!) away from his defences.

Made a vow after the Mitchell bout that I wouldn't bother with any more of the crap fights.

I wonder if there'll be a full house?

Probably will be. As you know, the part-time fans don't know the difference between the WBO and the big three, which is what's so sad for the true fans. I remember when Naseem was on the way up and making waves, he was featured in a large advert in a Sunday magazine, and labelled a WBC champion. He was WBC international champion...

this is tragic news i was hoping this fight would be off and we'd c a new opponent but no we get the armenian roadsweeper who was ko'd by a journeyman.

calzaghe has so much potential but its all gone to waste defending a mediocre title and not unifying
