Boxing Documentary looking for help

Post by Nycsouthpaw »

Hello,

I am making a documentary about Jews involvment in boxing, mainly between the First and Second World Wars. A time when Jews played a very big role in this great sport. I was hoping people may have things that they may be willing to share with me. Photos, Video, or even any information about living boxers from that day.

Thanks so much!

Contact the editors of Ring Magazine. This publication goes back to 1922. Nat Fleischer founded the magazine and was the leading authority on boxing until his death. Nat was Jewish and wrote many articles on Jewish fighters. Im sure the Ring has a multitude of articles in their archives on Jewish fighters. Good luck.

Thank you for that suggestion. Yes Nat was Jewish as were so many other people not in the ring. That is on my list of things I have to do. There photo archive alone is amazing. I am looking for a good photo of Jacob Golomb who started everlast as a swim wear company in 1910. I have spoken to them so many times. No one gets back to me, and I can not seem to find one good picture of him. I think there is one with Babe Ruth, and the file is way to small.
Thanks again for the idea. I agree, it is a must!

Thanks so much.

Yes, I sent her an email. I have tried so many times to reach max. The way his dad was shown in Cinderellaman made my eyes spin. I was hoping to set up an interview with Max to talk about his dad, and the fact that his father's mother was not Jewish. And to tell me a little about his feelings on all that. I heard that Ray Arcel said, that he saw Max in the shower, no more proof needed!

I will try that with contacting "Maxie's Girl"

Thanks for the info!
