Pickering is getting on a bit and has perhaps lost something.

But if you are telling me Hunter has the same motivation he did two years ago, I'd be surprised.

I agree, I think Esham would 'want' it more this time plus I had only a point making the difference the first time around.
The heavier weight may favour Michael though, a real 50/50 fight in my opinion, alhtough I lean more towards Pickering

Yes nice interview, Esham Pickering is a class fighter and i've always looked up to him, especially early in my career. But I found some of his remarks a bit disrespectful if not ignorent. When he says :
1/"when I boxed Marc Callaghan I just boxed in first gear, gave him a boxing lesson & did 12 rounds easy, was just sharpening my skills, if id stepped on the gas id have stopped him in any round".
2/"Steve Gethin said to me afterwards its the hardest he's been hit, & the stoppage was done at the right time" but then he goes on to say "I mean it looked like he'd been run over after the fight, his face was obsolutly battered".
3/"If you look back at my record, the times i've got beat, I had a lot of personal problems - for example with Michael Hunter, he didn't have me....he didnt have Esham Pickering in there".

1/ When Esham Pickering boxed me we all know that he well beat me on points, if he was just sharpening his skills & could've stopped me in any round why didn't he stop me in the last then.
2/He got the stoppage over Gethin & no doubt looked like he took some knocks. gethin showed him respect by saying it was hardest he been hit.
3/Most of my career ive been boxing through personal problems, everyones problems to their own I know but the times ive boxed most couldnt of stepped out into the daylight let alone into a ring. The battle ive had outside the ring is alot tougher than what ive had inside thats why I fear no man. We can all come out with exuses of why we lost fights, one of my loses I was up all night the night before when I rushed my dad to hospital and had been awake 36 hours. Another only 6 weeks after I found my brother dead laying on his face and his jaw so stiff that I cut my fingers on his teeth trying to open his mouth and having the guilt of not getting ther sooner. Another I was out the country not training I get a call, Nicky Cook has pulled out a fight & im asked if I want to take his place, I jump at the chance at a weeks notice & againts world level Jackson Asiku(didnt know who until I was back...or on my back I should say ) at a weight above me. And taking nothing away from Rendall Munroe, my last fight near 3 weeks ago, not only did I have 10 days to make the championship weight, and the fight being the exact date my brother passed I went through the fight and training with a broken heart with my partner of near 8 years leaving me over 2 1/2 months ago taking our little boy, inbetween work & training I had been chasing up solicitors and getting a court date to obtain equal contact with my son who I miss so much, 2 days after my contest with Munroe was to be the first time id seen him since she left(if id left & kept her from seeing him id be arrested, the law to do with this stinks, there should be more for equal rights for fathers but thats another issue!)and as I was walking to the ring thats all I could be thinking about,looking forward to 2 days later when id be seeing my son. I wasnt ever hurt, my mind was else where, I could not switch on, on top of that my weight was way out of control & I lost 8 pounds 2 hours before the weigh in, was in wet suit & in sauna, (totally stupid I know, & something i'll never do again). Rendall Munroe you boxed a very sad hollow shell of me that night, please give me a rematch & if I win I promise to return you the favour. I will only ever box again when 100% physically & mentaly fit. I know ive had at least 1 debatable decision go for me (I thought Ian Napa won our close fight) but ive had more close debatable decisions go againts me like Jamie McKeever, Dazzo Williams, and draw in my first fight with Micheal Hunter & ive had a clash of heads causing a cut & having the fight stopped when on top) I bet there are many fighters who have been going through personal problems when beat but its our choice to get in there so we cant really complain or make excuses. I know although it says ive lost 12 times I havent been beat by my opponent 12 times, some have, some ive beat myself & some refs opinion have been wrong,ive proved to myself 12 times thats not the right way, ive eliminated 12 ways of doing it wrong, there cant be many more! good fighters & through history have had loses in double figures, because they would fight anyone anytime & learn their trade like me, a modern day good fighter Johnny Nelson had 12 loses. I was going to call it a day, but no, im unfulfilled. I hope I dont have any believers in me now because I love to surprise or even shock people. Rendall Munroe please give me a rematch, maybe have me as a warm up fight for Pickering.

Agree with Marc on the first point anyway. Sorry, I always take the "I'm just doing the rounds" or "Sharping my tools" arguement with a pinch of Salt. GOOD Sparring should be a great assistance there. Not quite the same granted, but if someone is in the opposite corner throwing with evil intent and small gloves then of course you want to KO them ASAP - even if its just incase disaster strikes... Just admit the you didn't have the power to take him out, no shame in that.

Very honest of Marc regarding the Napa fight also. Napa won close but clear IMO.

Glad to see you haven't retired - still think you have a bit too offer at English title level anyway. Would love to see you fight Sean Hughes.

Marc Callaghan and Sean Hughes have already boxed each other, the fight never really caught light, Hughes fought negatively which was suprising because he's normally exciting and gives it a go like he did againts Dunne and Corccron

I cannot complain if it's in New Zealand, Canada, Mexico, Los Angelas. I've been to Madrid, Hartlepool, Dublin, there were 8,000 Irish and it was on prime time TV, it was unbelievable. In Hartlepool that was the most tense and against me, which didn't really bother me and Madrid was very overwhelming as well

Thats a tricky one, I was surprised that Hunter got dropped heavy a couple of times by Pickering but I wasnt surprised how he gritted his teeth and came back and fought with so much determination, him & Dazzo Williams are the most determined fighters ive came across. I think it would depend on Hunters mind set, does he want it as much as he used to? because againts Moiltor I believe the Micheal Hunter we know would of got up of his knee and carried on, he's always had this do or die attitude which is his biggest asset I believe, which def won him the fight againts Pickering and they seemed heavier knockdowns, I cant really judge by my fights with Hunter & Pickering who would win a rematch because when I boxed Hunter both times the second time in Hartlepool I was really up for the fights and, focused & very mentally stronge at the time and we both fought hard,there was that needle between us, but we had the most respect for each other after the 2nd fight (boxing news had it in their top10 fights of the year, shame it wasnt on tv) but againts Pickering I didnt have that same eagerness, I wasnt as pumped up as when I boxed Hunter, was a bit too chilled out, didnt have that nervous energy, wasnt focused at all so although I have boxed both the only thing in common is my name because two different fighters turned up for them if you get what I mean. I showed Pickering to much respect, was like a sparring session, touching gloves at start of round & all that just going through the motions. Sorry I sit on the fence at that one, it really depends on which one of them turns up, would love to see it though

Thanks, you got to be honest with yourself to go in the right direction, I like Bernard Dunne to, think he's brilliant to watch, got lovely skills. He got caught cold last time out which can happen to anyone and has happened to fighters who have bounced back and became great champions, I believe its true when its said that when having a loss like that can make you come back an even better fighter
