Once again, Kerry Kayes gives a good insight & information on lifting weight & how if it's performed correctly, it can benefit a fighter!

Hatton is ahead of schedule in terms of his weight & preparation. I'm sure Ricky has been a lot havier at this stage of camp, with just under six weeks to go until Dec 8th.

Jesus, Ricky looks great. It always amazes me how much weight he can lose over a short space of time. He looks like he could fight tommorow. Just look at him now compared to the press conference that was just a few weeks ago. I wonder how many pounds he drops in a peak week of weight loss.

The more I see of Hatton in the build up the more I fancy him to win. He seems to be going an extra mile and has a very strong confidence exuding from him in all his interviews. Where as Floyd has been posturing and not taking the fight as serious as the DLH one which is a mistake cause Hatton is more dangerous to Floyd.

Any Idea how much he benches or deadlifts?

500kg isn't that much on the leg press with a partial motion like that despite sounding like a load of weight, not to brag but I did 12plates a side (580kg) as a teenager and I wasnt that strong.

Depends where the motion starts from though. From rest to moving it's quite easy to do it by bracing your back against the machine. You only have to be able to hold it for a little while.

Ricky looked like he was lifting the weight to full extension and then dropping it down a bit, which is a lot harder.

I'm not sure about all that " i used to leg press 500kg when I was whatever age and I wasn't strong"..............i think fair to say you weren't all that weak neither tbh.

I think Ricky looks good. He will need every ounce of devil and "nastiness" he speaks of. When I watch the video tho', as much as I wud like to see Ricky win, and think he will, I don't reckon he is in any better shape or training any harder than a certain Mr M a few thousand miles away.
But here's to a Brit victory anyway - Ricky is a great ambassador for boxing and our country let's all get behind him.
(I realise that is a totally pointless thing to put on a site like this.......you guys all are obviously)...but the wider sports fans too.

The benefit of using weights in boxing is a controversial one. It started with only using your own bodyweight (press ups, burpee/star jumps etc) to using 3-5 X 10 repetitions with lighter free weights with speed at short intervals and little recovery time as it strengthens the long muscle and prevents bulking up. Then the whole clean and clean/jerk thing became a flavour because it promotes explosiveness.

But it has became intuitive to me that whilst using strength training for an athlete in a linear sport such as the sprints and jumps where they have a well choreagraphed routine to their performance it is not appropriate to boxing, given that it is much more dynamic.

Hatton is using a method that he feels comfortable with and that is great, but I hope it does not interfere with is range of motion because he will need it against PBF.

Whatever you say about the lad when he's not in training, he's certainly dedicated when he's in camp.

Go on, Ricky!

But for his size and weight it's impressive. Most body builders I know struggle to get over 750, and they're twice Ricky's weight/size.

When you factor in
1) Ricky is 11stone and
2) He is a boxer not a weightlifter
3) He has already done a workout

Then it is very impressive.

Having said that the bodybuilder boys probably do a lot deeper motion, where as Ricky, as KK says is just concentrating on the top few inches of the movement (sport specific)

Ronnie Coleman can be seen doing mega leg presses on youtube which is pretty entertaining. I am sure he does like 1100kg or something
