Froch: Come on Joe, beat Kessler and fight me
Carl Froch is calling on Joe Calzaghe to fight him after his world title bout with Mikkel Kessler on Saturday.
'The Cobra' defends his British Super-Middleweight Title for the fourth time against former world champion Reid Reid at the Nottingham Arena on a Hennessy Sports show with title partners GoldenPalace.net on November 9. Sky Sports will televise live.
Undefeated Froch wants to face the winner of the fight for Calzaghe's WBO Title and Kessler's WBA and WBC Titles.
Froch is aiming to show the boxing world who the real number one in the super-middleweight division is the weekend after world champions Calzaghe and Kessler box in Cardiff, Wales.
"I've been a big Joe Calzaghe fan over the years but have not been impressed by the way he doesn't want to fight me," said Froch.
"I think Joe Calzaghe should fight me really. He has had a couple of really soft voluntary defences rather than fighting me and I've got the hump with him over it.
"Okay, Kessler is a good fight, but he says he wants only big fights now and fighting me would be just that. There would be huge interest in Britain for it.
"I want Joe to win, and I think he will. But it's probably better for me that Kessler wins, because then I'm more likely to get a world title fight quicker.
"I've been ranked in the WBC top three for the last year now and am due a shot at the title. But Joe has not wanted to fight me yet and is now talking about stepping up a division.
"If Joe loses and I fight Kessler and beat him, I can say I beat the man who beat the man. People won't be able to say Joe would have beaten me then."
Froch tips Calzaghe to out-point Kessler, although the 'Cobra' sees it as a risky fight for his fellow British super-middleweight.
"It's a difficult fight to call," said Froch. "Joe can be caught because he is getting vulnerable. Anything can happen, but when Joe is under pressure he rises to the occasion.
"I think Joe will do what he has to do to win on points. But if he gets knocked out, he will probably have to retire. He is talking about big fights in America, but he will not get any of those if he gets stopped by Kessler. You have to give Joe respect for taking the fight - it's no formality."

Don't make me print a list of all the people who've contested Joes title that were nowhere near the quality of Froch.Max Molyneux wrote:Calzizzle will foshizizzle Frochzizzle easizzle.
Two domestic titles don't warrant a shot at Joe.
I'd love it if Joe took on Froch, so we can see Carl spark him, but I'd be amazed if it happens as the risk to reward ratio won't be high enough for JC.
Froch will find it easier to get Bin Laden in the ring than he will Calzaghe.

What risk ratio Is there? Froch hasn't even taken on a winning Euro level fighter yet.Chambers2 wrote:Don't make me print a list of all the people who've contested Joes title that were nowhere near the quality of Froch.Max Molyneux wrote:Calzizzle will foshizizzle Frochzizzle easizzle.

Reid, Eubank, Lacy, Mitchell, Brewer, Woodhall and even Starie were and proven to be more quality than Froch.
My point Is, beating domestic level fighters doesn't mean he stands a chance against Calzaghe or that he thinks he deserves a shot even though shite fighters have gotten a shot.
I think politics got in the way of the European shot but he has fought some people on that level certainly.Max Molyneux wrote:What risk ratio Is there? Of course theres a risk for JC when hes fighting someone who can punch like Carl, who has the 12 round fitness of Carl and who has the chin of Carl. Look at the quality operators who Tatevosyan had taken the distance (Karmazin, Eastman and Bute).Max Molyneux wrote: What risk ratio Is there? Tatevosyan, Magee and Barney are all Euro level IMO. Magee and Barney would both have been Euro champions barring dodgy German judging.
Resumes mean fcuk all when it comes to fight time. Look at Kostya Tszyus record when he fought Hatton, look at Don Curry's record when he fought Honeyghan......Max Molyneux wrote: Reid, Eubank, Lacy, Mitchell, Brewer, Woodhall and even Starie were and proven to be more quality than Froch

Calzaghes happy to give a 'mysterious entry into the WBO rankings' a shot at his title, but Carl who's ranked in the top 10 of all the major governing bodies isn't worthy. You're even starting to sound like allegedly
You say that "beating domestic level fighters doesn't mean he stands a chance against Calzaghe ", beating domestic level fighters doesn't mean he doesn't stands a chance against Calzaghe. Quality can't be determined solely by resumes

Hatton was above domestic level when he got to Tszyu though.
I already replied to that point. Doesn't make It ok for Froch to have a shot just because other fighters have got one.
That becomes a weak arguement when you say I'm sounding like FW.Calzaghes happy to give a 'mysterious entry into the WBO rankings' a shot at his title, but Carl who's ranked in the top 10 of all the major governing bodies isn't worthy. You're even starting to sound like allegedly allegedly

This Is what I use for certain points yet most still argue against It.Quality can't be determined solely by resumes
Carl is obviously above domestic level as well, hes beaten the 3 TOP contenders for his British belt convincingly (2 of whom had done very well on the Euro scene, Magee had an ABC belt) and has just sparked Tatevosyan.Max Molyneux wrote: Hatton was above domestic level when he got to Tszyu though.
I can't see why?????Max Molyneux wrote: That becomes a weak arguement when you say I'm sounding like FW.
Why not, why break the habit of a career. Joe won't fight Carl because of the risk-reward ratio. Carls a BIG risk, but as he is unproven at the very top he is not a massive reward as he doesn't have the prestige (yet). If JC was confident of beating Froch he would have fought him already instead of Bika or ManfredoMax Molyneux wrote: I already replied to that point. so you're arguing against your own point??? Performances have to be taken into consideration and Carls performances are ones that are at top World level IMOMax Molyneux wrote: This Is what I use for certain points yet most still argue against It.
The fight isn't going to happen, if Calzaghe wins he will move up for bigger fights if he looses he'll retire. However there are few people more deserving than froch.
Barny would have won a european title at a weight above but for a bad decision. Charles Adamu was a very good fighter Porras is at a resonable level as is Maggee and Sergey Tatevosyan, Robin Reid will be another good name who was thought good enough to challenge for a world title not so long ago. I believe there is talk on this bord of his next fight being for the european title.
Hopefuly Froch'll get a shot at one of the vacant titles. I think he is more than capable of beating bote Bute and Mundie (if he ever fights again)

yeah and he weren't having tough fights with guys like magee and adamu.Podmore_Birmingham wrote:One domestic title was enough for Joe to get a shot at the WBO title in 1997.Max Molyneux wrote:Calzizzle will foshizizzle Frochzizzle easizzle.

Tom Podmore.
Magee is better than a lot of Joe's challengers. In fact, he WAS one of Joe's challengers until the Universum/WBO thing.
Nevertheless, if Joe hadn't taken more than a few "tune ups", he probably wouldn't be having a massive fight this weekend.
Terry is right about Joe. He never fought a contender on the way up. It was either tune up, ex champ or unification, which suggests that the promoter has had a massive choice in whom the champion defended against (which looks quite bad sometimes).

If Joe wins he isnt going to fight Froch just to please us - Froch isnt on Joes menu - If Joe loses I think he will take time to decide whether to fight again and probably the only fight he will want is a rematch with Kessler - It will be all about pride and nothing else - Lets just give up on Cazaghe/Froch and Hatton/Witter neither will happen while the earth is round - While we are at it Haye/Macca looks 1000/1.
