Jamie Moore fights for European Title December 8th...

Post by G-man »

Jamie joins Manchester fight night
EXCLUSIVE STUART BRENNAN
31/10/2007

THE biggest night of boxing in Manchester's history has turned into a blockbuster with the news that Jamie Moore will fight for the European light-middleweight title on December 8.

Moore's clash with unbeaten Russian fighter Zaurbek Baysangurov in Wigan is on the same night as Amir Khan's Commonwealth lightweight title defence against Graham Earl at Bolton Arena.

Just a few hours later, Ricky Hatton will take on Floyd Mayweather Jnr in Las Vegas, and Moore's fight will top the bill in the British half of an all-night Sky Sports programme.

Khan reacted by predicting a "wicked" hat-trick for Greater Manchester boxing.

The clash poses a problem for Salford trainer Oliver Harrison, who looks after both Moore and Khan.

But rival promoters allegedly and Frank Maloney are expected to discuss fight timings which would allow Harrison a 20-minute dash along the M61 to be in the corner for both fights.

Friends

"We are all going to sit down and sort something out," said Khan. "It's a shame in a way that we clash because I am usually ringside for Jamie's fights, and he is the same at mine, but that won't happen this time.

"I will get to see Ricky's fight on TV. A group of friends and I have hired a suite at a hotel near the arena so we can sit up and watch it live from Vegas.

"It should be a wicked night - and I think we will get a hat-trick on the night."

Moore has finally got the fight for which he has been longing for over two years, and endless defences of his British title, the latest when he stopped Andrew Facey in Wigan on Friday night.

Baysangurov will be Moore' sternest test yet. Twice a world amateur bronze medallist, the go-forward fighter from war-torn Chechnya has had a meteoric rise through the professional ranks since moving up from the amateur game in 2004.

He has quickly racked up 16 wins, 12 inside the distance, and took the vacant European title belt by out-pointing French fighter Hussein Bayram in Cologne in July.

Can't they put this on the Khan show saving Oliver time dashing across the M61?

This can't be true, surely it can't be. Can Moore's team confirm this??? It would be crazy. This is potential career suicide for Moore and he shouldn't box on the same day as Khan.

This is JAMIE'S most important fight of his career, its affects HIS life, so why is he going to share his trainer with the country's best known prospect who is also in a critical fight himself on the same evening?

It's also too soon after his fight with Facey, which turned out to be more difficult than expected.

Logistically it doesn't make sense. Moore needs Harrison to be fully devoted to HIM for what promises to be a very tough fight. But how can he be when Khan is involved in a career defining fight on the same evening?

What if Khan-Earl goes 12 rounds? What if Khan loses? Is Harrison going to say "Never mind Amir we'll talk about it on Monday. Listen I've got to go Jamie Moore's fighting in Wigan. If I set off now I might get back for round 6."

Moore's handlers should be advising him differently. They've had an age to advance his career, surely they can do better than to land a European title shot on a night when his trainer is engaged elsewhere. Or, if they genuinely care about him, agree to let Moore box on Warren's card in Bolton. At least Harrison would be guranteed to be in his corner. Bottom line is Moore should ask for a new date, either later in December or beginning of January.

He's waited this long, he can wait a few more days, I'm sure.

Are you high on Calzaghe this week?
Well even thought thats nothing to do with my post, I guess I am. :P

Wouldn't It be better though If Khan and Moore both fought at Bolton Instead though? Or does Moore have to fight on Sky?

I am sure the money from Sky TV enabled Maloney to get Moore home advantage and a decent purse for the fight. It's not ideal but better than the possibility of losing a purse bid and having to travel and get paid less for this fight? I would say so.

Well he'll have to....but I agree, looking at the Russian's record he looks very tough, and from Jaimie's POV he'd want a full time trainer for a massive fight like that.

The timing must all be about PPV here.

Is the Khan show on ITV?

There's a greater possibility of Moore losing by him fighting on December 8. He might be getting paid well for THIS fight but I think the lad deserves better. Shame on the lot of them.

So.

The trainer has two different fighters to prepare and It would be easier for travel.

Max it's pretty straightforward, the Maloney card is the UK leg of the Hatton PPV. Why then would they put Moore on Warren's ITV card? Makes no sense.

Ben,

You have just confirmed to us all what Frank Maloney told me months ago and that is that you have no concept of what happens in boxing !!!

I will not be getting involved anymore in this debate ,but would confirm that Jamie Moore was involved in every stage of this deal and is doing cartwheeels about this fight and the date.

I think Ben was just getting at the idea that it was stretching it a bit. And now it seems that there's about 5 big British fights on the same day, which hints that armchair fans will miss at least 3 of these fights! Moore's EBU challenge, Khan-Earl, Duddy-Eastman, Abraham-Elcock, Hatton-Mayflower.

Hopefully Sky will do some SERIOUS delayed coverage. I'll be curious what Setanta will do.

Great news for Moore - who gave us yet another exciting fight last Fri - & sounds like an exciting move forward. Just as everyone was saying he wasn't making progress since the Macklin war...

Ben you are forgetting his promoter is Frank Maloney
Didnt bat an eyelid when he saw Johanesson get bashed in a Euro fight which he should have never been in.
Paul Ingle was seriously weigh drained the fight was fatal
Jamie will get crucified like the rest which is a shame cos he is a sound kid.

Trainers don't call the shots in the boxing game, promoters do. Who's promoting Moore these days, Maloney??

Why would Moores promoter allow him to fight on Warrens show and contribute to his ticket sales (and whatever else) for a rivals event, also would the Dec 8th Moore show sell as many tickets if Moore was fighting elsewhere? Warren would have to pay Moores promoter a small fortune for the idea to even be concievable and I don't see that happening.

I don't recall this ever happening before, other than when purse bids have been won by a rival promoter ala Woods-Johnson.
