"My $4mn house is paid for, I have 8 figures in the ban

Post by Carbo »

... all eight of my flashy cars are paid for. I ask myself, why do I keep coming here."

So says king of self-aggrandizement, Floyd Mayweather.

Now, I'm sure he's got a fair bit of wonga, but he spends it like a sailor just back to shore, and I'm surprised to hear that he has so much. at least 10 mil in the bank, 4 mil on the house, probably 3 mil on the eight cars plus another 3 mil for clothes, the interior of the house, his bling etc, and you're looking at 20 million.

Has the pretty boy really earned so much? I suspect he's telling porkies considering the way he lives his life. I know that whenever he goes out he likes to 'make it rain'. No, that's not some wierd sexual pleasure or a leaf from a death rock band, but he likes to take a big stack of 100 dollar bills and throw them to other party goers/ night club revelers. And you can bet while he's there in the club he's not drinking guiness.

Lets not forget that he may have made far more than 20 million bucks, but after the tax man, his trainer, his manager, and his promoter get their cut, it will be significantly less.

I would have thought he'd have a lot more than that in the bank, hasn't he been consitently earning $10m a fight for years? What was the ODLH take home around $20m, even with deductions I' dhave thought he'd have banked more, but then as you rightly point out his lifestyle will have taken millions away - how much has Phat Boy Records cost him as he hasn't released any songs or singed any artists to it but still has all the overheads.

Read an article that said Lindsey Lohan has blown her $7m fortune partying, rehab and legal fees this year so if that is possible then its possible for Flyod to have done the same.

Nowhere near $10 million a fight for years.

He has a very expensive gambling habit. On the 24/7 prog, it said he gambled up to $35k per day. Imagine gambling and losing that every day for just a month - that's already approx. 1 mill gone. In a recent Boxing Monthly interview, he was non-committal when asked whether he had enough money for the rest of his life. Most people with 8 figures in the bank would have more than enough for the rest of their days (and plenty to leave to the kids and grandkids). My guess is either he hasn't got it or he's not yet paid his tax bill on his earnings from the DLH fight.

I also hate the way he brags about having his wealth in "liquid cash". "I ain't interested in hearing how much this guy's worth and that guy's worth," he can often be heard saying. "How much you got in the bank", he might continue.

What an ignorant way of looking at money. If I had that much money, I'd only keep a very small amount and give the rest to Warren Buffet. What's the point of leaving it in the bank? Make it work for you. With that attitude and the way he 'makes it rain' and buys bling like to world's running out of gold, he better hope he can fight on the big stage for a few more years yet.

And what about the.. ahem... brilliant investments he made in the rap industry?

Interesting article on boxing bling!

Being made redundant so nothing better to do than search the internet for fight purses and articles -

Anyone need any research doing?

That's a great article, by the way, and I'll bet Mayweather's easily spent 3 mil on bling.

No way he says what he's got what he says he's got. Not unless he hasn't paid taxes for Judah, Dela Hoya etc.

Normally it's great to see a fighter make proper money but Pretty Boy sure does have a way of grating on you.

Lets look at it this way, if his active career of serious earning lasts ten years and his retirement lasts fifty years he should be looking to amass at least five times what he has spent over the last ten years if he wants to maintain his lifestyle.

Doubt he's there yet.

Its not how much thats in the bank, its your ability to keep hold of it.

He probably has a lot of money and when you have that much money you can pay other people to invest it meaning it keeps accumulating.

If you have money as long as your not a total dick head then you only stand to make more of it.

If he starts with $12 million in 2004 (just a random year) I doubt he can spend over $2 million, where the other $10 invested in the stoke market then a good investment bank can probably make 20% if not more a year. Leaving him with a level $12, then if he has a fight and earns $3 million and puts that in (still spending $2 mil a year then he has $13 million so then he makes 2.6 million a year on his investment, so that gives him .6 of a million on his capital which is bing re-invested (assuming he still spends 2 million) so the next year he'll make 20% on 13.6 million the next year his man will be investing 14.4 million this year. When asked what the most amazing thing in economics was Albert Einstine said compound interest.

Now he is going to get $10 on top of that for a fight, as long as he has some advisers he isn't going to need any money to retire on. Not being a dick head is why Robbie Fowler is the richest sports man in the UK.

Floyd spends money like it's never going to end, like the well is never going to run dry!

Why is it the majority of really rich people, particularly if they have never been rich, live a lifestyle like the money will just always keep on rolling in? Doesn't Floyd realise that at some point, he won't be earning millions for fighting?

I know Mayweather has other business interests i.e. Mayweather promotions, but what if that doesn't succeed the way Floyd may think it will? Has Mayweather invested money for his children?

Surely, one of the most wisest things a guy in Mayweather predicament should do, would be to have a property portfolio & rent property out! That way, Floyd has an income for the rest of his life, even if he wasn't earning, he'd still have the money from let properties.

I'm sure he has that if you put that much money in the bank then you would be advised to make your money work.

Some things to bear in mind:

1. I have no doubt that Mayweather can spend more than $2m a year. That might seem like a lot of spending money to you but a top level hiphop lifestyle and gangsta entourage don't come cheap.
2. Yes investments can go up but they can also go down. 20% a year every year is stretching it really.
3. Inflation will further erode the value of any invested stock
4. Once you have money you have the opportunity to make more money, you also have the opportunity to be feasted upon by various scamsters and failed businessmen
5. If money comes easy - it tends to go easy. Thats why footballers, rappers etc waste so much on gambling, cars, drink, drugs, women etc - making money in your twenties is a recipe for losing it by forty.

Fowler is pretty wealthy like a lot of footballers because of good outside investments but if there was a housing crash tomorrow he might see his wealth diminish hugely.

My point is not that Mayweather hasn't got enough to retire on for the likes of you and me, its that he's not guaranteed his lifestyle for the rest of his life at current burn rates. Frankly, in the circles he moves in, a $10m or even $20m cash assets is a piddly amount - wisely invested or not.

If Tyson can piss $300M away in less than 20 years i'd say it's possible for Mayweather to go broke.

YOu may be right, however it may be that one of the people around him had there head screwed on. Then they could have sorted out a good retirement plan, as is mentioned above he probably doesn't do the "I am" shit in night clubs very often.

The main thing I was saying it was likely he was telling the truth.

No I think he's telling the truth too. He's earned big these last few years.

Though probably a chunk of that cash is owed to the taxman.
