Anyone know of Booker T Word status?

Post by jazzyjen2k »

I used to follow Booker T back in 88-90. He was very good. I saw him a few times during sparring sessions with James Toney. Does anyone know why he failed in the last few years of his career? Rumor of drug abuse...anyone hear that?
Just an old fan wondering what happened or where he might be.

He's now a free agent, having been released by WWE.

I don't know of his current status, but I knew of Booker Word once upon a time as teenagers. Not personally, he wouldnt know who I was. I saw him wrestle at his high school -- a raw, strong, talented kid if not exactly the best wrestler around. Built like Tyson.

So a few years later when I saw him fight Anthony Hembrick, I jumped straight out of my seat when he dispatched Hembrick in the first round. Hembrick comes dancing into the ring to loud music, rising young star with an undefeated record ...

And Word went out there and flattened him!

Yeah...you're right!! He was a "Tyson"-like fighter. Powerful to the punch. Stocky and strong.
I saw the Hembrick fight and was cheering the whole time. Loved it when he put him down.....and quick!! They even took Hembrick out in a stretcher!!! I was hoping, from that point on, he would take off and become the next "Tyson". But not really sure what happened.
My tie to him was a 2 year romantic relationship that resulted in a proposal but he couldn't quite steer clear of the adoring fans, specifically the females. I wished him the best and we parted with a smile on both of our faces. I saw him around town a few times but then I moved south.
If only he stayed focused and took his talent seriously. He could have made it big!
