I'd like to correct Warren, for the record
When Warren used the Benn phrase in regards to Hopkins saying "But go back and think of the great fighters, the Ray Leonards, the Tommy Hearns', the Marvin Haglers. They fought everybody. They didn't duck."
Leonard wouldn't go near Aaron Pryor (because he knew he'd have probably lost), Hearns wouldn't go near Mike McCallum (because he knew he'd have probably lost) and Hagler wouldn't go near Herol Graham (because he knew he'd have probably lost). Infact, Hagler officially ducked Graham (giving up the WBA belt). See, even the greatest fighters avoided the toughest challenges.
Ricky Hatton wouldn't and won't fight Cotto or Witter (if he loses to Mayweather he'll still fight De La Hoya), Joe Calzaghe wouldn't and won't fight Carl Froch, and Floyd Mayweather wouldn't and won't fight Cotto or Mosley (or Williams or Margaritio).
Why would Hopkins have fought Calzaghe in front of 2,000 people at Cardiff Ice Rink and delayed coverage on Showtime when he could have (and did) fought Oscar De La Hoya?

Leonard, Hearns and Hagler all beat better men than those guys, and all 3 would win those proposed matches. A couple of em lost to Sumbu Kalambay in their primes!!!
Joe Calzaghe won't fight Froch? At this stage of his career, Joe has nothing to gain fighting Froch. It would be viewed as a step backwards after Kessler. Froch is about 30 years old and still hasn't fought in world class. As for Hatton, I have never heard that he wouldn't fight Cotto. If they both won, or both lost, in the next month, it would still be a great fight at some point.
Re: I'd like to correct Warren, for the record
Why should Ricky give whitter a payday?! All JW has done is slag him off for his whole career. He doesn't deserve a shotSTP wrote: Ricky Hatton wouldn't and won't fight Cotto or Witter (if he loses to Mayweather he'll still fight De La Hoya), Joe Calzaghe wouldn't and won't fight Carl Froch, and Floyd Mayweather wouldn't and won't fight Cotto or Mosley (or Williams or Margaritio).
Same for Froch with Calzaghe. He doesn't deserve a shot. Shouting your mouth off doesn't get you a shot at a title.
As for Cotto. The fight has never been offered. Hatton was always on showtime and cotto HBO
Mayweather I don't really give a toss, but you still couldn't say he's fought nobody's could you
Re: I'd like to correct Warren, for the record
I think Witter's holding the WBC title puts him in line as much as Juan Urango or Carlos Maussa for that matter. I don't see the froch Calzaghe one though.Smigga wrote:Why should Ricky give whitter a payday?! All JW has done is slag him off for his whole career. If Calzaghe ducked anyone it was Ottke, he certainly didn't show a willingness to go out and fight him.

A WBC title by beating who? Wasn't the best was it. He doesn't deserve a shot on merit AND behaviour. Ricky will never fight him. Well I think Corly and Harris are worthy opponents for any champion. In terms of weather he has said things that hurt rickies feelings thats a rubbish excuse, Hatton's fans have said horrible things about Witter.Smigga wrote:A WBC title by beating who? If you have a problem with someone its far better to sort it out in the rings, the fans would like it and it would be good for both fighters. I think Ricky realises its a high risk low reward type fight which is why he'd probably rather take on people in the states.
Yeh I read that most of the bollox was comming from a pair of 12 year old trolls by the look of things though. Hatton ALWAYS say he wll fight Witter IF Witter does this an that - Witter does it thenHaton backtracks or comes up with a new reason.
Hatton should fight him for the fans.
Mayweather had slagged off Hatton much worse than Witter ever did , but Hatton LOVES the money!
Greedy Manc git.

Hearns avoided Mugabi at 154 like Superman avioded Kyptonite.STP wrote:When Warren used the Benn phrase in regards to Hopkins saying "But go back and think of the great fighters, the Ray Leonards, the Tommy Hearns', the Marvin Haglers. They fought everybody. They didn't duck."

and yeah you're right. Hatton loves the money, something Whitter cannot generate. He can't sell out the 2000 seater doncaster dome if i'm not mistaken. His earnings certainly arent WBC Champion standards
yes there has always been that problem it seems for Witter in terms of pulling power.
Maybe being from Bradford he'd have been a more popular cricketer than a boxer.
I thought it was a bit sad that for his showpiece match recently he had to up sticks, go through with that embarrassing courtship of Doncaster Rovers football fans.............Witter needs to take it stateside and milk the Americans for everything he can whilst he has chance, it's not like he hasn't put the graft in already.......although the fight I'd love to see him in would be against Hatton.
The impression I've always had with Hatton is that he's waiting til Witter's 36 or something daft except the way it's looking Witter looks like he'll stay fitter for longer than Hatton, so it will probably never happen.

Witter waited long & hard for that shot. Branco pulled out of a title eliminator, Mayweather held on to the belt and then vacated when Witter was mandatory. Regardless of who you think would win, Witter was mandatory and deserved a shot but kept having ppl move away from him. Witter's beaten top 10-15 level fighters Harris, Corley, Kotelnik, Ndou, MoruaSmigga wrote:A WBC title by beating who? Wasn't the best was it. He doesn't deserve a shot on merit AND behaviour. Agreed, Witter had to work for his shot while Hatton thought he had hard It defending his WBU to get a shot.Autobarn wrote:Witter waited long & hard for that shot. Witter Is more deserving than Hatton thinks.
