Todd Hickman

Post by sweetsci »

I'm going through some of my early-mid 1980s editions of The Amateur Boxer magazine and a name I keep seeing as a can't miss prospect ("The Next Sugar Ray?") is Todd Hickman, from Akron OH. I did a search on Boxrec & it shows one pro fight in 1985, a win. Does anyone know what happened to him?

I can sure help out a fellow noarth coaster on this one..

Todd Hickman was killed in a drive by shooting sometime shortly after that one pro fight

I actually saw Todd Hickman fight in a US-Ireland dual meet at the Concord Pavillion in 1983 along with Mark Breland Micheal Nunn, Paul Banke ..He stopped his man in the first round

I saw him hanging around afterwards and I remember he had the most gigantic ghetto blaster I have ever seen.... He had beaten Pernell Whitaker and was tapped as a top prospect for the Olympics..

But for some he never made it and his story ended tragically

Thanks a lot, Zurdo!

Did we chat via email several months back, or am I thinking of someone else? Anyway, thanks again. I wasn't sure I'd get an answer on this one at all, much less by someone from my hometown!

Too bad about Todd. He was sure written up as something special.

Yep that was me!

When I saw Todd Hicckman was kind of a lanky Tommy Hearns type fighter He stopped his man with one left hook..

When all the fighters came out to sign autographs I got to meet the one and only Al "Chico" Evans he was the heavyweight on the team who also won by a knockout that evening ACE is also mildly famous for being the only man to stop Mike Tyson in the amatuers
