Where is "The Secret"?

Post by bennie »

Richard Williams, of course. He lost a tough fight to Sergio Martinez last June, a loss that doesn't look so bad now, especially as he twice floored the world class southpaw. But where the hell is he now? Wayne Alexander dropped out for almost a year and we all saw how that affected his sharpness in a recent comeback loss. Williams needs to get back soon. He's too good a fighter to be languishing on the sidelines.

I like Williams but that loss really brought him back to earth with a bang and his confidence was shot to smitherines. I hope he does comeback, was involved in a war with Paul Samuels and I would like to see him back in the squared circle providing decent entertainment again. I now do believe that Takaloo is our best hope in this division now.

Good point Bennie, he's almost back to the same position he was in the domestic rankings (by default). He needs to get back in action, he's been to erratic all the way through his career and sometimes I wonder if he really wants it.

He can come back and I think even get into the big league - but he needs to show that he wants it. Hopefully, he's had a good medical and he's got read of any doubts that the "mystery illness" that Adam Smith mentioned is out of his system.

its a shame williams has been prone to bad illness i really do think that has hampered his progress quite badly  he looked a world star when he banged out badea really impressively :D unfortunately williams is in a very tough division worldwide and its going to be hard from now on especially at 32.

The British Light-Middleweight scene is one of the biggest domestic boxing tragedies. All that hype about Alexander, Williams, Takaloo (as least he's still relatively active), Lockett and Roberts and they (or their promoters) just let their careers stagnate and then fizzle out. Still pisses me off to this day....

yep exactly my feelings and probably every1 on this board all that bloody politics getting in the way robbed us off some excellent matches there :x who knows if they had hooked up maybe the winner could have gone onto bigger and better things :P but no the promoters let us down there

Yeah the light middle weight not getting it on is a tradegy, I don't blame Sports Network for holding out for Witter vs Hatton, because it seems realistic that one or both could capture a meaningful world belt (I'm including the WBO aswell).

The same applied for the Michael Brodie, Spencer Oliver, Patrick Mullings box off's that never happend. All 3 had world class written all over them and the fights would have been bigger sellers if it would have been for a world title (also, the way back to world class would have been better for the loser). Unfortunately, Oliver suffered serious injuries and Mullings seems to burn out (where is he?).

However, with the likes of DLH, Vargas, Trinidad, Castello at the top of the Light Middleweight tree, it always looked unlikely that any of the Brit boys would have gone all the way, show they should have faught.

Its the same with the Welters now, and also the Heayweights - they should fight before they get exposed by some import.

I agree with your assessment Stu, but who is the last Light Middleweight you were referring to? :o

Yeah i know who you mean, Javier Castillejo the Spaniard who went 12 with DLH. I thought you meant Jose Luis Castillo for a moment, i thought he must have put on some weight after the Mayweather fights :D

Talking of those guys i found this link on Secondsout.com:

I didn't realise Vargas was planning on fighting Castillejo? For a young guy he has had an awful lot of decent fights, Quartey, Wright, Campas, Trinidad and De La Hoya, that's quite a little list.
