He didn't work in the corner for Hopkins last fight. I'm glad to hear he is doing well.boxmel wrote:Unless he's had another, Dynamite told me at last year's PAL that Naazim had a heart attack before that and was doing well. This was backed up by one of the officials from their area who was at this year's PAL. I imagine he has had to slow down considerably.Naazim is a big guy. Speaking of Naazim - does anyone know how he is doing. I know he suffered a stroke earlier this year.

One, Although I am a friend and fan of Danny's , his opponents. started late, only a couple amateur bouts and one draw that he struggled for with another beginner. Still I understand that it is important to get the butterflies out without too much of a test. The smaller gloves and no headgear as well as that type of hyped venue. He did good and he did what I would have expected him to do, but I have seen Danny tested better at a local club show.
I know Mel, but sometimes I want everyone else to be clear about it.boxmel wrote:Sheesh, Dennis - I was being sarcastic!!!! No sense of humor. And you're welcome. Thanks to you for sending me the GG info.
Aaron Alafa listened very well to my instructions to him during his bouts. It was a pleasure working with him during the tournament.
well what club show have u seen him "better tested" at?? the point is, they are not going to put in a killer for your first pro fight, you have to learn the game and build your record up before you can start fighting opponents like that, and danny did what he should of done, is knock him out, so dont go saying nothing about that...squarering wrote:One, Although I am a friend and fan of Danny's , his opponents. started late, only a couple amateur bouts and one draw that he struggled for with another beginner. Said Dennis,
Clarence - good luck in your pro debut!
That I'm being sarcastic? Sigh.I know Mel, but sometimes I want everyone else to be clear about it.
He's a truly nice young man.Aaron Alafa listened very well to my instructions to him during his bouts. It was a pleasure working with him during the tournament.

Mel - I want others to be clear about my statements and what I meant not your intentions. Everyone on here, knows that you are full of sarcasm.
Clarence - I wish you well in your career. I still would like to see you get your weight down some. Let everyone know more about your debut as it gets closer to the day. Maybe you can start a thread and let everyone know how your training is going without giving your opponent any inside secrets.

Test's will be down the road... Danny is going to be a good pro... I am sure Bernard Hopkins will tell you the same thing... His first pro fight at 174lbs was a loss and he came back and won 22 in a row before losing to Roy Jones Jr. and then he won 26 more winning 4 world tiltle and holding them for 10 years. At the age of 42 almost 43 he is still Lt. Heavyweight champion of the world after losing his first pro fight... The pro's are a whole differant way of FIGHTING!! Don't rush things!!squarering wrote:One, Although I am a friend and fan of Danny's , his opponents. started late, only a couple amateur bouts and one draw that he struggled for with another beginner. Ya... It happens I had 265 amateur bouts. National JO Champ, USA Open National Champ(ABF), and I was never off my feet... My first pro fight I was dumped 2 times in the first round. In California we have the 3 knockdown rule, both times where flash knockdowns, but down is down. Jesse Reid and my father where going nuts, I made it threw the round, and got the KO. What a night that was and I know how close I was to being on the losing end that night. Ohhh and that guy was suppost to be the best opponent for my first fight. I learned that night there is never an easy fight in the pro's... It is a dirty biz, and did it get dirty... I was lucky I had a great coach in Jesse Reid, he is still a close friend(25 years).

Most amateurs are under the impression that they will win a title and get rich. Just as I thought!! This is all so wrong, most pros never make it. The only way you get to the big money is to win a title, and hold that title for 5-6 defences. You also need a big name(DeLaHoya, Mosley, Jones Jr., Taylor, Mayweather, and maybe Hatten) There is a few others but I had a lot of bouts and my memory isn't the best(comes with the territory). They need to be close to your weight class and willing to fight you. Then you will start to make big money. If you fight for a title what do you think you will make. Unless you are a heavyweight you will be lucky to get $50 grand, and your big chance, but if you win you will make around $200 grand for your first defence. Ohhh and look out for all of the VULTURES... They will come running friends you have not seen since 1st grade... You Have to make a good name for yourselves in the amateurs... Real Good win a Gold at the Olympic's... Trust me!! I have been there and done that...Dennis wrote:You proved my point Mario. I have amateurs talking to me all the time about turning pro. Some of them act like the pros will be easy and I try to explain that many pros were excellent amateurs so it won't be easy.
