Julius talks of retirement BEFORE Skelton fight

Julius Francis has hinted at retirement even before he steps in the ring with English heavyweight champion Matt Skelton at York Hall on February 7 (see allegedly's website). That doesn't bode well for his chances against the unbeaten Bedford puncher.

Francis should have quit years ago - I know everyone else seems to like the guy but he gets right on my t!tz.

Danny Williams should have quit on the spot after his defeat to Francis - that told me more about Williams potential than anything since - you can't put Francis away - give up - your'e a no-hoper

Yes, Lugh. Julius is an underrated fighter and a really nice guy. I can't understand why some are so down on him.

Christ, he's just a guy trying to make enough money before he quits to set himself up financially, what's his bloody crime.

Tyson had no business fighting Francis anyhow, he was the one who lost cred in that fight, not Francis.

Not every fighter is destined to be world class, and once they realise that they aren't then they have to try and set themselves up for their futures, that's all Francis is doing.

I have been told off before for not being pleasant about him - by people who assure me he's a good chap - I have only seen him box therefore!

BUT the reason I am "so down on him" was the display (if it may be called that) he put on for Tyson.

What roll over!! He got up from five knockdowns! Tyson's punches had a numbing effect when they landed said Francis, but he didn't look for the easy way out like many others.

Francis was definitely given more credit for bravery against Tyson than he deserved but still, he had an oppurtunity to make a nice tidy sum extra for doing nothing and he took it, because he's not stupid. It was the Mike Tyson show, nobody seriously expected anything from Francis in that fight. The whole thing was a joke, the boots Julius was wearing were only part of it.

sorry, i assumed you meant knocking someone out when you referred to "putting" someone away

however Julius gave a great account of himself against Axel and it was a fairly close thing. Axel of course should have been world champion twice...

He apparently faught Sam with Broken ribs - Sam also went to his dressing room and congratulated him on a good effort, he said that within 30 seconds he knew he could beat Williams, he didn't know that he had the beatings of Francis until the 7th round.

Perhaps Sam was being polite, but if he faught the Turk with broken ribs then of course that would affect his performance, and it was too good an oppoortunity to turn down.

I think I would have liked to have seen Francis bow out after his Neilson defeat, the fighters he's lost to since haven't been of the same standard/potential and his blow out by Maskaev is not good. I do find it odd about this news, he always seemed to me motivated and has expressed his disgust at being excluding from the British title picture. He gets an opportunity and doesn't seem to want to take it.

I say, pull out and retire - if Skelton's going to fight Francis (which I do want to see) I want to see him in with a determined Francis, not a Francis who will embarress himself.
