Oh cmon Spud, Hattons list achievments destroy and British competitor...

So what if Joes sits on his belt for 10 bloody years, so what if Hatton loses to Mayweather? Its about striving to be the best...

And that not beating at 76 year old version of Hopkins

But big props to all British winners, it has been a great year!"!!

And another point which we should take note of which has come up on this and other forums before - we should as a country celebrate our winners - not have a w*nk everytime we come second!!!
I got your point bout Hatton being up against it, call it beer induced paranoia!!

My point being, IF Hatton loses I dont want people not giving him props for taking the fight, this IS a big ask!!

If Calzaghe had taken these fights 7 years ago would he be undefeated? Maybe not...but why the hell should he be lauded for beating World Class Kessler when Hatton WILL get slaughtered if he loses to Mayweather??

That was my point

I genuinely think it will be competitive and probably a split decision.

Mayweather is talented no doubt, but even he has his flaws and I think Hatton has the style to expose them.

- Mayweather likes his breathing space, Hatton closes space better than most active fighters of today.

- Mayweather has struggled most in the past against fighters who employed a pressure style like Castillo and DLH. Hatton is better than Castillo and can maintain the pace longer than DLH.

- From comments I've seen from Mayweather, he seems to believe that this fight will be like the Gatti fight which is a huge mistake. Gatti was never world class, just very popular. It was also a Gatti at the end of his run who made a lot of tactical mistakes such as thinking he could box with the master boxer and not bringing a plan B. Hatton is a great tactician and won't go down like Gatti and he certainly won't be left just standing in front of Mayweather like Gatti was.

- Does Mayweather have the stomach? I don't think we have seen Mayweathers heart sufficiently tested in his career. What happens if Hatton manages to put him into the trenches? Does Mayweather have the heart to go through it knowing that Hatton is probably going to make him work for the full 3 minutes of every round?

- Will Mayweather be too negative to win over the Vegas judges who usually favour agressive fighters such as Hatton?

There is a lot going in favour of Hatton in my mind. I think he is in with a real chance, but it will be very, very hard. To say Mayweather is just going to box in circles around him is just ridiculous in my mind.

I see Hatton winning the fight, personally. I wouldn't be at all suprised. Infact I'd be suprised if Mayweather won.

He's not near as invincibly good as people say, most of his opponents on his world title reign have been worse than fornicating Eubank's were - sluggish footspeed and Mayweather basically having too much balance going back and his shots too untelegraphed. When a decent fighter like Castillo or Corley has decided to have abit of a go, Mayweather has not known what to do and has looked vulnerable and stoppable. Judah and Oscar were both beating him clearly after six, and he was looking stoppable let alone beatable. In their primes, Judah and Oscar would have surely done him over.

Ricky has great levers at closing the gap, fast feet and is NOT a straight-line fighter there to be picked off - he does a lot of side-stepping. Also, his punches are untelegraphed (see the way he positions his hands) and he's a master at threading singles through and can raise the pace.

Hatton does him any time between 6 and 10. Trust me, lads. Trust me.

Sorry, not sure the point of the thread - Don't think anyone thinks its going to be easy. He is fighting a guy, on his home patch, in his prime, P4P number 1 (undisputed), at a weight the best suits Floyd and I aint convinced that the promoter would rather fight Ricky than Floyd.

Of course he is up against it - yes, it will be the single biggest achievement in British Boxing - should Hatton cause a sensation.

Hatton has done an awful lot in his career - two weight world champion and looked sensational last time. Some people were going to pick Hatton in a toughie, others were obviously going to go for Mayweather... I think we all know how hard the task at hand is - so not sure of the thread's point?

What Joe did last week was excellent, What Haye did tonight was sensational (tops Calzaghe's last week IMO), What Hatton has the opportunity of doing could top the lot.

What this just shows though is the Balls that Ricky has got. All the cards are stacked with Floyd, all the slight advantages are with Floyd. Yet, I suppose the Witter fans are still saying he is scared of Junior.

Yes, I am sure the ones who are tipping Hatton will hold their hands up and say perhaps they overated Ricky a tadge, or underated Floyd - should Floyd win. Yes, if Ricky makes mistakes I (and I'm sure the othrs) will be critical of his performance. HOWEVER, what EVERYONE should give Ricky - and applauding him for doing so - is his respect for going to the Lions den and taking on the best - the minute the ref his giving his final instructions, the respect should be there - and that should remain untill he retires.

Why wouldn't he have taken this fight? It's a dream come true for him.

He's made his money (around £20million from Maussa, Collazo, Urango and a shot Castillo in a three-year period) and now this opportunity is a dream come true for him. He still gets to eat fried breakfasts and down pints of Guinness with his mates, and despite being on pay-per-view gets on Parkinson and stuff. He's a lucky, lucky bastard and gets abit too much credit.

He's taken the fight because he wants to prove himself on the biggest stage against the best that the game has to offer.

Where do you get £20 million from those 4 fights? Hatton created his own luck by being open (freed from the shackles of an over carefully managed career) and has a bit of personality. He calls his own shots now and he knows how to play the game outside the ring whilst having substance in it.

He gets all the credit he deserves.

Joe Calzaghe won the best fight of his career and despite me criticising continously over the years you have to give credit where it is due - he has proved he is the Number 1 in his division.

Tonight we had David Haye winning a fight to be honest I really thought he could do but not in the manner he actually did - the tactics were outstanding - just when we thought Haye would tire - Haye got going - magnificent achievement.

What more can be said about the fantastic achievements of our amateur boxers at the recent World Championships - FANTASTIC

We then have Enzo Maccarinelli, Clinton Woods and of course Junior Witter - and when the banter and b*llocks written on here is put to one side - every single British fight fan must be think - for f*ck sake what more brilliant things can happen to British Boxing!!!!

We are left with one answer - Ricky Hatton beating Floyd Mayweather in Las Vegas on 8 December!!!!

But ... in my humble opinion that is where the reality check should come in!!!

Ricky Hatton is fighting the pound for pound NO1 fighter in the world - there cannot be any dispute about that - Mayweather is a fantastic all rounder and no matter what approach you think out about the way Hatton could beat Mayweather I just think - No Way!!!!

I want, hope wish and pray Hatton does the buisness it would put British Boxing where it belongs and that is as the Number 1 sport in this country - why because we have fighters winning - not like in other sports where we are coming second, third or fourth or worse as normal - but still have the hideous nature of celebrating our losers!!!

But if Ricky Hatton beats Mayweather - in my view it will be the greatest achievement by any fighter that has been produced in this country - bar none!!! - it is for that reason my logic is I do not think he will do it!!!

Does that last bit make sense??
No.

Hatton beating Mayweather, a 30 year old former Jr LW with no punch at 147, will not be the greatest win by a british fighter.

The reality is that Ricky Hatton's continued success has led to a challenge against a man that is unanimously acclaimed as the best boxer in the world.

Hatton's role as the underdog is beyond question and he is stepping up a weight to a division that does blunt some of his assets.

However I don't think that he would have taken this fight if he thought that victory was beyond his grasp and you can guarantee that he will give it 200% come fight night because this is a dream oppertunity for the Manchester Mexican.

An imposing task for sure but don't write Hatton off untill the fight's over.

Maybe this is a Brit thing but even if Hatton does come up short, I certainly won't think any less of him. Noone that climbs into a boxing ring and takes punches for a living has anything more to prove to me and if they are good at what they do, it's just the icing on the cake.

Absolutely agree with your assessment - Sure Ricky will win though with his body punching but if it does go the distance Floyd will get it really big 7 or 8 out of 12.

I don't get the thread? Is it basically lots of words saying nothing?

It's been a great year for British boxing but Ricky has the hardest task of all

Is that it in a nutshell? No shit

No I will say in advance, my next paragraph is not meant to encourage a forum rucking or something... but I do need to ask it as a question.

Would this thread been created if this was an Banner/Fight Academy show?

Although, when I asked civilly the point of the thread in my original post - asking why a "reality check" was needed - we all know its a tough ask. You refused to respond.

Thats all I need to say about it
