He is a pain in the arse.search wrote:bunch is a complete twat imo.
when working for the bbc, he was claiming audley would hold world recognised title by 2006.
and calling anyone who picked haye late a lier.
he jumps on bandwagons and is very annoying.

My girlfriend, who is Japanese and not much of a boxing fan, and who was in the room but not watching the TV, suddenly lifted her head out of her book and said "Who IS this guy?" about Bunce.
I've got nothing against him, but it amused me how he got a negative-sounding reaction from an otherwise disinterested party.

He does give a feel that he's blagging his way through interviews. He's the most excited person you'll ever see and comes out with utter bollocks almost constantly. You should hear him talk about football.Coco wrote:To make good comment on live TV, you have to know your stuff.
You can't go off and research like you can for an article.
Bunce is not very knowledgable, jumps on bandwagons and does what his paymasters tell him to

Bunce's personality might not be everyones cup of tea but he cares about the sport and has been on the beat for years, covering countless amateur and pro shows. He works very hard and doesn't toss it off like some of the football writers who occasionally cover the big fights when it suits them.
Bunce has arguably done more than other journalist to keep Boxing in the public eye during some barren years. TV, Radio, Internet forums, Trade Mag, Documentaries - he does the lot. Sure he's irritating sometimes, and he's not a lead presenter, but the bottom line is he's passionate about Boxing. And for that very reason I think people should cut him some slack.

I like Bunce but he talks bollox and doesn't really know what hes talking about. The point that he creates fake excitement is true but hs not boring on the plus side. He is annoying too but I think hes a character. It also annoys me when fat blokes that have probably never boxed try to talk about conditioning and fighting weight - thats a pet peave.

I'm hearing you, I got the same complaints - Liverpool-Fulham, followed by the Haye fight, followed by going off to bed early and then getting up to watch Cotto-Mosley only to find out that it wasn't broadcast on the freeview version of the Setanta subscription, but to satellite subscribers only.Lenny wrote:Yep, my girlfriend was annoyed that not only was our Saturday night made up of Liverpool v Fulham followed by boxing, but she had to listen to that "bloke with the stupid squeaky voice" for ages. Buncey has boxed Am I believe.
I like him, a full circle U-Turn for me, but he could exhaust the enthusiam if he talks about every fight and fighter so, so excitedly.
e.g. Was David Haye really in "last chance saloon" on Saturday?
He is of course, also trying to explain the sport to new fans too, not just us anoracks.
I'd like to see him balanced with a more conservative but forceful opinion rather than Richie, who knows his shit but doesn't challenge Buncey's opinion enough.

Bunce boxed as an amateur I believe. He's not fat, he's 'well put together' much like myself.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:I like Bunce but he talks bollox and doesn't really know what hes talking about. Waas she wearing her glasses at the time?livingstone cole wrote:This is uncanny.Lenny wrote:Although she seemed to cheer up during the Haye interview after the fight
"oh he's lovely"

My wife likes David Haye and describes Bobby Vanzie as 'beautiful.'
BE careful, in the words of Tommy from Goodfellas "I just want to make sure I don't end up kissing fvcking Nat King Cole over here. ...He's talented. Leave it at that."
I'm a big Bunce fan. Love the enthusiasm and he IS very knowledgeable, but that knowledge sometimes gets clouded by unnecessary hyperbole and exaggeration, such as saying the first 6 rounds of Calzaghe-Kessler were possibly "the best ever" (or words to that effect). I'd rather have Bunce any day than some pundit showing up just for the fee or a slick presenter who doesn't really follow the sport. I think the problem is a lot of us probably envy him as he comes across as just a fan like the rest of us. We all talk/write bollox about boxing at times. The difference is he gets paid for it.
