Dennis, are you familiar with the problem up in Pa between the Pa athletic Comm and USA Boxing. I wounder if it was brought up at the meeting. It has turned into a real fiasco. Thank God we here in MD have such a good relationship with the Commission that they asked our State athletic executive director to give a presentation at the National meeting on how well the two can co-exist.

The way I understand it and I could be wrong, but I would never admit it. There are 3 regions of Pa governed by 3 separate people in the athletic comm. in terms of pro fights. But the west is the Allegheny Mountain Association, and the eastern part is Mid Atlantic Association. The guy that watches the western part of the state
has determined that he has the power to pick and choose who officiates in amateur shows, regardless of how experienced they are. The other part of the state is not governed the same way. So, the western state man put restrictions on am shows in the AMA but the Mid AA was still cool to operate. Lawyers for the AMA then the USA Boxing got involved. Now you know what happens when Lawyers get involved, thing are sure to all messed up. LOL Anyway, Jim Millman basically said if USA Boxing can't operate in the AMA under the same rules and the Mid AA, then there will be no amateur shows in PA. period. Now I think they are trying to work it out but it is a mess and I think it all boils down to one man on a power trip. Must have a short fuse. We need to support the AMA cause this could happen in any state where the athletic commission is either lazy, ignorant or corrupt.

Jim Millman is meeting with the pro guy in PA who's being an idiot. Hopefully, everything will be resolved at that time.

There wasn't anything earthshattering discussed at the annual meeting. Millman has some marketing ideas, i.e., "Guns & Gloves" where gyms do some free basic training and membership is free if they stay on; Guns 'N Hoses (basic tuff man) ala Hollywood; "Leagues," i.e. USA divided into quarters and the areas in each quarter (for instance, Los Angeles and San Diego) will have competitions. He's talking about having web meetings as a way of communicating. There will also be approximately $1,700.00 available to every LBC and three programs to choose from where it will be applies: computer equipmento/software for the running of the LBC; computer scoring system, and something else I can't remember. There is talk of changing the logo to a more "professional" look. Another fund raiser will be selling USA Boxing stuff. Kentucky will now be its own LBC rather than part of the Indiana LBC. Millman is looking into ways of getting funding, but it will be awhile before this happens. He is also looking to redo the current Constitution & BL. No rule changes until next year, mostly clean-up and clarification. As soon as I receive my hard copy of Millman's address, I'll put more info here.

Boxing people bickering in PA. Did someone from Mel's area move to PA or something? LOL. We have the problems in Las Vegas, then California, and now PA. It is always something.

I didn't know Pannella and USA Boxing cooperated so much and what not. Do you guys down in the other parts of the state have to go all the way up to Baltimore to see him if you're getting a state license?

Of course not. I don't think there is one yet. The dates of the U.S. Championships are already known (I posted them somewhere on this forum - first week in March, I think.) I have heard there is a possibility of a USA-Mexico Dual in San Diego early part of 2008 (heard that as a computer tech) and that the USA-Romania Dual next month MIGHT be cancelled since the Romanians got into trouble at the Worlds.

That would be bad news for the Harvey Boxing Club since that is one of their big fund raising events. I went last year and had a good time.

No Mel, I meant wealth of knowledge, your information is never right. LOL

As far as Pat Panella, We have to go to Pat if anything is done concerning the pro side but only. However, there is some degree of co-operation that must be done on the Pro Am shows.

The One, Could you please clarify, what you meant about it all being dropped in Pa. I am a supporter of AMA and Faith Wolfley as well as other coaches and boxers that I become friends with like Danny Garcia and Andre Taylor. Does this mean that they are allowed to hold AM shows with out any State Commision interference.

To Koyla, There is a D.C commission for the District of Columbia and the MD commission for everything else in MD. Yes we do have to drive into Baltimore for anything related to boxer federal ID # manager licenses of second licenses. But Pat is good guy and very attentive to what you need. Plus I don't mind the drive, it gives me an excuse to go to a real deli for lunch and get a beef tongue sandwich and a conish.

There is a 30-day moratorium (spelling???) where the AMA can sanction and hold their own shows. This is prior to the meeting Millman is having with their head honcho - can't remember his name but it starts with a "G." Hopefully the two of them can hammer out some kind of compromise that won't cripple amateur boxing.

Dennis, Yes it was good talking to both you and Kenny. He was a little dissapointed in how things went down but there are so many times that things don't go your way, that when something like this happens you do what you have learned to do over the years,,,just go with it. Shawn is now the world Golden Glove Champion, How many other people do you know that can say that. Take care Dennis, I got to go now and write love notes to Mel.
