1. Holyfield vs Tyson II- June 28, 1997: The biggest anticipated rematch in boxing history, was also the richest fight of all time with both fighters getting paid $30 million dollars...This was the END of boxing for some boxing fans. Tyson bit Holyfield's ears like a damn cannibal or mad dog, taking a chunk of the champ's right ear.
2. De La Hoya vs Trinidad- September 18, 1999: The so called "The Fight of the Millenium" was indeed for me called "The STINKER OF THE MILLENIUM"...What a piece of mediocricity by both fighters in which none of the two impressed one bit. One was running for his life and the other was like he did not want to get hit. These two guys were not as GREAT as their supporters were implying or making them out to be. Neither in my book, these two fighter ARE NOT IN MY RANKING OF THE 100 GREATEST FIGHTERS OF ALL TIME by no means. Why? Because in their biggest stage of their careers, in their primes, when they got to show the entire world your skills and abilities and what you are made of, these two outsmarted the public by giving us something less than a sparring session. I do not care about the decision, but, did Tito really won this fight?
3. Louis vs Conn II- June 18, 1946 The first and biggest anticipated rematch after WWII. Louis and Conn gave us a thriller 5 years earlier...a classic...This time aroun, none of the two were not even 1/4 of themselves by no means. Conn ran for 7 rounds and did not make a fight of it. He was not even threat to the champ Louis. The fight ends by KO in 8.
4. Duran vs Leonard III- December 7, 1989 Many people were expecting this rubber match as "The Thrilla in Manila II", but what we got was "The Sicka and a Illa" type of fight...What a stinker!!! They did not even came close to their two fights 9 years earlier. "Uno Mas" fight should have been called "No Mas...Again"
5. Ali vs Liston II- May 25, 1965 Another anticipated rematch that became a stinker. Did really Sonny Liston took a dive or the punch was worth a KO? Are we believers of the anchor's punch or phantom punch?...What really happened in Lewiston, ME?
6. Lewis vs Holyfield I- March 13, 1999 Was this fight along the De La Hoya vs Trinidad fight were supposed to save boxing? I cannot believe that a fighter like Holyfield, who gave us great wars and performances through the years, participated in my view, in 2 of the worst anticipated fights of all-time...This must be a nightmare for me. Say it isn't so Evander. Then the fight was as boring as watching a religious program and the decision even made it worse. Was the female judge has a baby with Evander Holyfield too?
7. Mayweather, Jr. vs De La Hoya- 2007 I do not know the date and I do not care. I have not even seen the fight. But for a fight to be the richest fight in history outside the heavyweight ranks I expect blood, some knockdowns, non-stop action and drama. This fight did not had nothing of that. Nobody in this world has mentioned that this fight is a CLASSIC. The greatest fighter pound per pound today (Mayweather) vs the biggest atracction in boxing today since Mike Tyson (De La Hoya) did not gave us something to relish. And we are still paying for PPVs? When are we going to learn our lessons?
8. De La Hoya vs Whitaker -March 6, 1997 Here we go again. De La Hoya is the KING of the stinkers. Neither of the two did enough to win the fight. Neither of the two did nothing at all. Thanks the heavens above that we did not see a rematch.
9. Chavez vs Whitaker- September 10, 1993 I cannot believe what I just saw. Niether can I believe that I saw a highway robbery. The great Julio Cesar Chavez was 87-0 at that time, the best fighter pound per pound in the sport, in the biggest fight of his career, was totally outclassed and outmuscled by the great Pernell Whitaker. In one of boxing's greatest performances, probably the best that I have ever seen, Whitaker got screwed in the ass big time with a screwdriver. I expected a great fight. I saw a great MASTERPIECE, instead. But I also saw and heard a STINKING DECISION- A DRAW? Gimmie a break Nell Carter, RIP.
10. Ali vs Norton II- September 15, 1978 Maybe is not a stinker after all. Maybe Holmes vs Ali was worst. But for a fight that broke attendance and closed circuit tv records in this anticipated rematch was a yawner by many. I liked the fight. Could have been a better fight? Yes. But Leon Spinks was not in anyu class of greatness anyway. The title that he won with so much guts and will, was lost not only in the ring, but with women, drugs, and alcohol and troubles with the law. There is where he lost the title. This was to say good-bye to a great champ and to make histoy as the only man up to that point to win the heavyweight world title for the third time...That's all. And a stinker was the first fight that got me into watching boxing as a fan. From this fight on, I started watching every fight that I could and got interested in the sport, becuase, at the time, I was ONLY interested in Roberto Duran and Muhammad Ali's fights. Since this fight, my life changed. Hey, at least this stinker was BETTER than the other fights mentioned above.
