Fight of the year contenders

As suggested by NorthEastBoxingFan, what are the contenders for fight of the year so far (involvong a Brit)

Earl-Katsidis has to be a BIG favourite, but Khan-Limond was a fantastic fight and Hayes recent win in Paris was the bollox. I'm having abit of a mental block other than that

Mayweather-Delahoya (I enjoyed it anyway)
Marquez-Vasquez (not 1 of my faves but many rate it)
Katsidis-Earl (a bit 1 sided)

hatton castillo......how on earth was that fight of the year, yes the result was pleasing but the fight was pants, we are talking about toe 2 toe commitment, blood, guts heart and bollocks to be fight of the year !!

A good fight where Castillo didn't seem out of it and underlined the class of a british boxer

Not over yet but I reckon McCullogh/Martinez will be a contender. Kiko will be throwing bombs and Wayne will be trying to walk through them and throw punches in bunches, could be brutal to watch but I have no doubt it will be exciting.

Thompson v Vuma, Earl v Katsidis, Enjoyed Napa v Haskins, Johanneson v Gomez, Sprott's KO of Audley, Calzaghe v Kessler, Ricky v Castillo, Mac v Braithwaite was interesting...

Bar the knockdown that Earl scored it was too much of a one-sided beating to my mind to qualify as fight of the year - once Katsidis regained his senses it was all one-way traffic.
For the more technically minded I think Calzaghe vs Kessler has to be up there - two great boxers and the fight in the balance well into the later rounds as the balance of power seemed to shift one way and then the other - lack of knockdowns meant it didn't have the drama of other fights though.
While not proposing it as the fight of the year, I think Moore vs Facey has slipped under the radar a bit. Facey put in a great effort and definitely had Moore troubled at times, and Moore showed fantastic resilience to come back from the brink and literally fight him to a standstill and break his spirit.

At the risk of sounding like a dissenting voice just for the sake of it, I've got the same problem with this one that I had with Earl & Kat - namely that for 95% of the fight it was Vuma in control and gradually schooling Thompson. Despite the knockdown that Thompson pulled off out of the blue it didn't look to me that he was ever really going to turn the fight around.

I'll maybe try and get my top 5 together later but for now there have been some good suggestions already. I unfortunately missed Earl-Katsidis but it hurt just reading about it. Certainly thought Thompson -Vuma was a great fight but Thompson needs to look at defence.
They say Craig Dickson , Darren Gethin was a belter but guess you had to be there, as with a few other non-TV I guess.
Napa Haskins??? thought this was a bore and couldn't stand Haskins petulence. Napa Booth was better than that an not much happened. Hell I'm not going to rattle off every fight but I can't go without giving my mate Franny Jones a shout versus Kevin Anderson for the British title.

Internationally I don't see enough fights but certainly Calzaghe - Kessler in spells was fantastic. Well worth taking out Setanta for.

That sounds like a domestic show to me as not familiar with the names, were u there or was it recorded?

I should probably give a mention to Michael Jones versus Pichirillo even though I only saw it from round 11 onwards - it just looked like Jones had put in a great effort (got stopped 12 I think - and considering the level - European).

I will be an interested spectator as will many of us I assume for Forrest - Pichirillo.

Miller vs Woods was an American fight on US TV - It was on ESPN 2 Friday Night Fight as an undercard. So good, they replayed it in full the following week - instead of airing a live undercard fight.

come on, both these fights had 2-way drama and thrilling exchanges. for intensity and sustained action, these were brill fights

Bika v Codgeringtone was more one sided! Despite wild action and both gettig hurt, I gave Bika most of the rds...(even though this isn't EVEN a British fight in the slightest)...
