steve bunce a joke
1 thing we need to remember. Bunce did not produe the show, or anything like that. What was the 1st clip we saw of Haye? Getting stopped by Thompson.
If all was balanced, we'd see Enzo getting sparked by Swaby the previous week, or has that video vanished off the face of the planet? Instead, we got EVERY guy in the studio, not just Bunce,, going out of their way to say how Azzaoui was a credible opponent.
We may as well call the thread Frank W owns Setanta's boxing program, or Trevor East is a joke, or whoever it is that lefts 1 promoter hijack a program's content, needs his dick cutting off...

Adam Smith is hopeless, Ant. He shouldnt be covering boxing matches, he spouts non stop drivel and wouldnt know a boxing ring from a bull ring.Ant Evans wrote:Sky's Adam Smith, Ed Robsinon and Adam Chenery (producer) are proper, puka boxing men. They make it look easy both on camera and off and believe me it isn't easy. I just wish they still had the awesome Ringside programne and more top line fights.
Personally, I can't stand the recent obsession with having ex-pros as talking heads. They are not trained as journalists, often don't do research off their own backs and shrill like banshee's. The BBC started this obsession, I don't think you can get a job on Blue Peter unless you used to at least play midfield for Crewe Alex FC, and Sky have continued it.
But, then again, in an age when Colin Hart was fired from Eurosport for daring to say Roman Greenberg is average, what is the point in having knowledgeable and informed journos when they are too scared to say jack shit anyway...?

What sort of shite is that. You do not want ex fighters talking about their own sport that they participated in because it doesn't have journalistic appeal. What sort of research (apart from having been through the experience of fighting) does an ex fighter need to be able to analyse the action. Journos can give all the background research in the studio (who fought who, what the result was and all inferences that come from that as well as any rumours or whispers surrounding both camps).
Don't ever think that journos should completely eliminate ex-fighters in the commentary team or in the studio because that would be sad state of affairs. You'll hear so much more shite between them jockeying for position and trying to outdo each other on who knows more about the game.
As for shrilling like banshees - does anyone do it better than Bunce? I think not.
If you want to know why ex-pros don't necessarily make good talking heads, watch football Saturday. Two words for you. Paul Merson.
The bold type was said in the context of boxing by giving his opinion on ex pros. His first and third paragraphs are directly about boxing and the second paragraph is obviously referring to boxing by using sport in general to strengthen his argument.
Boxing, as you say has reasonably articulate ex-fighters as talking heads so the Paul Merson argument is dead in the water as far as it relates to boxing.
Not according to some on here it isn't - plenty of disparagement. I like the ex-pros which boxing showcases.SticknMove wrote:Boxing, as you say has reasonably articulate ex-fighters as talking heads so the Paul Merson argument is dead in the water as far as it relates to boxing.
And as I've said before - and this is addressed generally, not to SticknMove - doing the telly and radio is one of those things that seems like a piece of piss when you are necking the Fosters and scratching your balls with the same hand as you are eating your peanuts with.
I've no experience of the telly but have been on radio a few times and, surprise, surprise, it's not quite as easy as it looks.
When boxing was on its arse, Buncey was plugging away still trying to find column inches for it. I know this has nowt to do with presenting but wanted to say so anyway.

Said what Ive said on Buncey - Jim Watt/ Knowledgeable, good co commentator - Johnny Nelson/good, knows his stuff - Nicky Piper/should be dropped - Duke McKenzie/should be dropped - Barry McGuigan/Knows his stuff, but ITV puppet - Bob Mee/ top man, brilliant - Glen McCrory/good, and better than Nelson.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Right, here we go lads. See if you can do your top five/ten/whatever of UK boxing pundits. By this, I don't mean lead commentators - I mean colour/analysis men. I will have forgotten some so please feel free to include your own.

Steve Bunce
Jim Watt
Johnny Nelson
Nicky Piper
Duke McKenzie
Barry McGuigan
Bob Mee
Glenn McCrory
Include no more than a few brief words for each explaining your choice.

Quite true. Buncey's enthusiasm for the sport is undeniable. He's stuck by boxing during some pretty shitty times.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:Not according to some on here it isn't - plenty of disparagement. Like it or not, wrestling is a huge business followed by millions, and so there is legit work in writing about it.ebeneezer wrote:And writing poor articles for power slam pro wrestling magazine was serious journalistic work was it?Ant Evans wrote:S

And besides, so what if he writes about wrestling as well? Can't a journalist have more than one area of expertise?

I may be wrong but I think more tickets are sold to wrestling fans than boxing fans - The arenas always seem packed and they put on shows every week.oliverfennell wrote:Like it or not, wrestling is a huge business followed by millions, and so there is legit work in writing about it.ebeneezer wrote:And writing poor articles for power slam pro wrestling magazine was serious journalistic work was it?Ant Evans wrote:S

Well done Chesh and Stick n Move - You cracked me up earlier Stick n Move with one of your wicked replies - Thats the thing, we can be serious or have laugh sometimes but why people spoil things getting personal I just dont understand - Hey Chesh my wife is upset because there is no boxing on Friday night - Hope for you yet mate, your wife might just become a fan - My wife became a fan of Rickys, really because of that lad who Ricky looks after - Gradually she has got more and more interested, and instead of her sitting in another room watching a film or something when the boxing is on we are now watching the fights together - Christ I nearly die laughing when I hear her say "come on use your jab more" then she says "what are you laughing about, he needs to score more points". - Then she says "I hope Ricky knocks that Merryweather man out" - Women are great arent they!!!SticknMove wrote:Yeah it had to be hard for him.chesh wrote:I think he certainly had the "Best Male Part" in some films!WildWaylon wrote: Wasnt John Holmes nominated for an oscar?
