Any Brits rooting for Floyd?
Any Brits rooting for Floyd?
I'm pretty sure I will be in the minority on december the 8th, being british but supporting Mayweather.
Will I be alone? Its not that I don't like Ricky its just I have followed Floyd for a long time.
I don't particularly like Hatton's style since he stepped up in class, and a part of me will feel Boxing would have been cheated if he beats Mayweather by mauliing, hitting and holding and wrestling.
I'm rooting for the pure boxer and the nice guy that few recognise.
Anyone else with me?

Fair enough point. Its always difficult to not be patriotic in a sports event on this scale.rasputin wrote:Sorry mate i cant believe what you have just stated anddbf wrote:I'm pretty sure I will be in the minority on december the 8th, being british but supporting Mayweather.

Don't get me wrong I'll be happy for Ricky if he wins.

of course i want ricky to win, i just hope he fights a stylish fight, up close and personal and lets those body shots go, not like the hug fest for 8 rounds v urango, that was awful..rasputin wrote:Maybe but surely you still want him to win!!rhino222 wrote:i agree with not liking rickys style since he stepped up in class, it was there in glimpses v urango (first 3 rounds maybe) but not much of it in his last 4 fights really....
Couldnt agree more mate ... but in this fight as much as i want a stylish Hatton body punching victory i would take any type of ugly win!! Im sorry but i really need Hatton just to win this fightrhino222 wrote:of course i want ricky to win, i just hope he fights a stylish fight, up close and personal and lets those body shots go, not like the hug fest for 8 rounds v urango, that was awful..rasputin wrote:Maybe but surely you still want him to win!!rhino222 wrote:i agree with not liking rickys style since he stepped up in class, it was there in glimpses v urango (first 3 rounds maybe) but not much of it in his last 4 fights really....

To the person who started this thread you are a cracker mate, i cant see how anyone from the UK can root for Floyd, i can understand people wanting Barrerra to win against Hamed cause of Hamed's way, but Ricky is the typical english gentleman and fights with passion and pride, and shows his love of the UK and is a good representative in my book, rooting for Mayweather is so stupid to me because if one of my mates said in the pub or somethin "Go Mayweather do 'im" Id give him a slap
I'm rooting for Mayweather; I prefer to watch skillful boxers over swarmer/mauler types. Don't give a fornicate about their personalities, I'd much rather go for a pint with Hatton but I don't watch boxing as if it were a soap opera, don't care if he's a nice bloke and Mayweather's a twat (which he is, admittedly). I suppose I want Mayweather to win because I think he should.

Why SHOULD Mayweather win!

Because he's by far the superior boxerrasputin wrote:mrbassie wrote:I'm rooting for Mayweather; I prefer to watch skillful boxers over swarmer/mauler types. I have to say i agree with this point of view. I’m a fan of boxing not of boxers. Also Hatton isn’t boxing for Team UK his boxing for Team Hatton. His win isn’t a win for the country, just himself and his team.mrbassie wrote:I'm rooting for Mayweather; I prefer to watch skillful boxers over swarmer/mauler types. No matter how much of a cock Mayweather is I’d rather Hatton lost a spectacular fight of the year than mauled his way to an ugly victory.
For all I know I may hate Rafael Marquez or Israel Vazquez if I ever met them in person but I’m not going to wait to find out which is my favourite so I can decide who I want to win their rubber match. I’m just want to enjoy what I expect to be another great fight.

I do think think that Mayweather is the superior boxer but there are many facets to the game. The ability to tough it out and use everything within a fighter’s arsenal ultimately determines who the winner should be. It isn’t always clear in this great sport which is so unfortunate.
A win for Hatton would do wonders for the game in this country rounding off a truly remarkable year for British boxing (and sticking two fingers up at the rest of the British sporting media that think sports is just about football, cricket and rugby)
There aren’t any qualms for me, ordinarily, about wanting a British fighter to win in a world title fight. With Hatton that is no exception – in actual fact even more so given the personality and down to earth nature of the guy. We have got someone that doesn’t talk bollocks and has a sense of humour which is self deprecating whilst maintaining a steely determination and belief. It’s great to see someone that can counterbalance these two things in the boxing world of today with its multi-million payday bonanzas.
Come Rickay – Bianca wants you win as well - the slaaag.
