They still have a lot to learn. Despite all the advertising of Cotto-Mosley live, they only broadcasted it live to satellite subscribers and not those who had subscrived via. a freeview box. I have had to pay a few quid to sign up and watch Mosley vs Cotto and Calzaghe vs Kessler but it has been worth it. Two great fight and Vargas vs Mayorga is coming too. I also hope they show Mcculoughs attempt to win the EBU title from Martinez.
If we had Setanta rivalling Sky a few years back, we might have got more Roy Jones/DLH/Mayweather/etc fights LIVE.
I commend Setanta for making an EFFORT.
Remember, we might NOT have got Cotto Mosley just as we didn't get RJJ vs Tarver 2 and a host of others.
Setanta may not be as good as Sky in the broadcasting department but they are trying and I appreciate that.

Don't get too carried away with Setanta yet. Good start but I remember Sky making an equally impressive start to covering big fights but they slowly regressed. I think SN possibly had something to do with that and the quality of domestic matches gradually went downhill, interest wained, this seemed to snowball into a lack of coverage in the big fights from the US.
I hope Setanta keep it up though and it's not a case of the business model of televising regular 'big time' boxing just simply not working and that it's also not just a calculated ploy to get in all the subscribers and then reduce the content.

Around 2004 things were really dodgy on Sky, thanks to Sports Network. It was crap like Macca-Lamontagne almost every week. International bouts were ones only relevant to misters Hatton, Calzaghe & Harrison. I really wasn't enjoying boxing about that time, not British boxing anyhow.
Thankfully they parted ways and all was good. Sky brought us good domestic & good US fights (though still making big omissions) and eventually Warren went with Setanta which pretty much seemed to double the fights we get.
It's obvious Frank is right in there with Setanta. Especially with all that studio bilge which made Haye's big fight an advert for Enzo. Right now Setanta's priority seems to be to keep on winning over the boxing fans by offering us must-see fights. I can't complain about the fights but |I'll continue to moan about the studio chit chat.
How ironic that Setanta aren't showing Guzman-Soto. Winner has to face Alex Arthur. They could have had Arthur in the studio.

Be really interesting to see if they show Tito vs Jones - Still have nothing lined up after Early December. ... They did do a big segment on it and Bunce was at his proffesional best when he said "I HOPE Setanta pick it up"
Going slightly off the point, but one show I have always been fascinated to see live is the 25th of December show annually in Belgium. I know the standard of boxing in Belgium isn't all that - but I don't why, just the whole idea seems to weird and strangely appealing. I might go to that one in person one day - always hoped that Eurosport would carry it on delay or something.

I think Setanta have an advantage over Sky in that they are a sole service provider - they run a sports channel, plain as. As a result, you don't se the funds moved to other areas once the subscribers are hooked. Another thing with Setanta is that boxing is one of the few sports that isn't sewn up by a single broadcaster at the moment, so a good area for them to "break in"...Goz wrote:Don't get too carried away with Setanta yet.
