Great Britain v USA

Post by mike222 »

The two countries are scheduled to meet in London on November 30 in an amateur international.Does anyone know the likely lineups, for example will there be any of the world championship teams fighting.I would presume a few will be having a rest.

I don't think you will see any of the #1 US boxers. The whole team is going to Beijing for the pre-Olympic test event. Most countries only send a few boxers to the test event but the US team is staying for two duals with China. Actually the 1st dual is not a dual but a tri match with Kazakhastan and China. Then the US team flys down to southern China for a secon dual. They won't be back until 28 November.

China will present a tough team for a dual. It will be good experience for both countries' teams.

From what I have seen of Yanez he'll have hardly any chance against superfast Zhiming.

Just remember that he is sparring with fast Rau'shee Warren frequently which should allow him to adapt to boxing someone else with fast hands. The top notch sparring in Colorado may be the BEST part of the residency program.

Paunchy, rather than going by hearsay and rumor, you might try calling USA Boxing and asking. Of course, it's up to them whether or not they tell you anything.

The three boxers that were kicked out of the camp in Colorado Springs are Danny Garcia, Charles Hatley and Quantis Graves. Garcia has decided to turn pro, but Hatley is here at the World Golden Gloves and I believe Graves is going to the USA v. England dual at the end of the month.

Apologies,of course it is England v Usa.The english side is a real mix four number ones and perhaps our four most talented Juniors.Mcguire is the european junior champ and is a real talent and Saunders who is even younger has tremendous potential.I hope it is a good turnout and whilst not at full strength I would expect England to win this match.See you at the york hall if only to give a standing ovation to the brilliant Gavin.

Yes I remember last year when the USA team had to find boxers and coaches at the last minute to travel to England. Even with the hectic dash to make arrangements on both sides of the pond we put together a team made up of mostly kids that just came out of the JOs. After the first two bout ended in early stoppages, by the US, it seemed very difficult to get a decision after that. With out question, Mike Hunter the young USA super continued to land clean hard body shots on a very tired and basically inactive Tyson. In fact Tyson was not able to make the second bout. so instead of 3-3- we were 4-2. I only hope that no matter who wins, the scoring stays fair and consistent under any condition. Close is close and they are hard to argue but there was a pleasant shock of surprise that night when the winner was announced in Piccadilly Circus.

Hal - they should not be scrambling around at the last minute. They should have the team selected well in advance and alternates on stand-by just in case a boxer gets injured, sick or for some other reason can't make the trip.

Are they boxing only on 11/30/07 or is there a second day of boxing? Any additional info would be great. Usually with the duals they box twice with the two events being two or three days apart.

Dennis, I was a little shocking to me how close things were cut and there were some reasons. We had a guy leave that normally did travel arangments and he a new person come in right in the middle of everything. The tounament was held over the Thanksgiving vacation. So I should not have been so surprised that England doesn't look at Thanksgiving the same way Americans do. Remember it was thier pilgrams that left and then created all that rucas about tea.

The boxing is going on right now, but I think the BBC channels televising it are only available to the UK audience. If it is available here, I can't seem to find it. If someone in the US has it, please let us know. Otherwise, the US members of this forum would appreciate it if someone from the UK could post results, comments, etc.

I'm disappointed with the scores and very surprised. I can't imagine our guys only scoring 1-3 points in 4 rounds.

Well to say the least those scores were a bit low for the americans. As a matter of fact if you add up the total for the 165,178,201 they were awarded a total of 7 points. That is 7 points in 12 rounds from 2 national champions and 1 olympic runner up .....UTTERLY RIDICULOUS!!!!!
