WBA should reconsider 'super ' champs

Post by Grant »

Its just that I saw this in the 'British Forum' and I think it is funny and sad at the same time. The WBA should hang it's head in shame for allowing this statement to be made.

Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:
Yes, it's the single most damaging factor for the sport.

When you get Audley announced live on the BBC as 'the heavyweight champion of the world', you know things are getting serious.
it also allows talented fighters to get devloped and ultimately, if there is a lot of talent, you get more good fighters. even Joe won a vacant title and grew into it. like IBF champ Bute is doing now

there are loads of negatives though.

Anway, Joe doesn't have the WBA regular belt, only the super version.

All we need to know is that Joe is the man at the weight, which he either proved vs Lacy or Kessler. That he beat both makes him the clear #1.

It is all about money. Everybody wants their own champion. Whatever Anthony Mundine thinks he will not be a champion unless he beats Calzaghe or someone who beats Calzaghe. Until then he is a contender.

Still, with Calzaghe vacating, Mundine is in the running as much as anyone, like Bute, Froch, Inkin, Brahmer, the Pavlik-Taylor II winner. Hope he gets a proper fight. Got to credit him the way he cleaned up domestically. Is his eye good enough for him to come back? Could he fight Bika, or has Sakio signed his life away to Contender?

Wish he'd forget about this "regular" belt though.

From all reports Sakio did pretty well on Contender.
