Dec 7 - Murray and Meager in America

Just been reading BN and looking at the boxrec schedule. John Murray and Lee Meager are appearing on the Bronco McKart-Enrique Ornelas undercard (a rematch), along with 4 other Brits (Craig McEwan, Jimmy Campbell, Martin Gethin and Dean Harrison). Friday Dec 7 is the date. It seems they will be fighting Mexican fighters, the day before Hatton-Floyd.

Great that these guys - particularly Murray and Meager - are looking to further their careers in America. Been very impressed the way Murray's compact Mexican style has developed and impressed by his "get up & get it" attitude. With him and Meager being aggressive sorts, it should be a good show. Also, good to see Hennessy doing something novel and interesting, and pursuing his GBP links.

I just wish Barker and Froch would be on the card, as rumoured a couple of weeks ago.

Someone tell me Sky Sports is picking this up...

Good to see Dean Harrison getting a slot on the big card. I think he did some gym work in Philadelphia before he turned professional. I imagine Froch would not be risked because of the impending Inkin bout, i thought they could have put him in with Librado Andrade as he is a Golden Boy fighter.

they quite often do these cards the night before a big PPV show.....pleased that these young brits are getting a rare opportunity to experience not only fighting abroad, but in the States.

Still, it would have been cool if one or two of the lads got an opportunity on the actual undercard of the big one considering the many (although not nearly enough) british fans that will be in attendence

I'll be going to this as I'm going for the Hatton fight so will be their anyway, looks like a decent enough card to stay entertained.

bloody hell. this thread is dying fast. is no one interested in these fights? Murray is 1 of our biggest hopes and already has a mature look about him. He definitely goes about things the right way, and has already fought in Florida, Vegas and Canada.

Meager may have lost his 2 biggest fights, but like Murray he's about as Mexican as Brits get. It's no big deal when a Mexican loses in his early years as a fighter - in fact, it's usually proof that he's learning something. Hope Lee has a crack at Romanov next year. By all accounts LM is dedicated to his craft and he's a very exciting fighter.

We should pester Sky to bring us this as it's only happening because of Hatton-Floyd...

Is this the bill that it was rumoured Matthew Hatton was fighting on?

So it looks like (I assuming) that DLH still is close with Hennessey? I wonder if this means Hatton might work with Mick in the future - if he does fight in the UK again... Lets hope so.

Matthew Hatton is on the undercard the following night, as far as I'm aware.

As for Murray and Meager, I'm glad they're getting a workout in the States. I'll be interested to see who they get in the other corner.

Is genuinly good oppertunity particularly for Murray who is a young and good fighter and at 22 should be looking to put his name in the frame for some fights, possibly Jon Thaxton or whoever holds the european title.

That's right. Dean also went over to Gleason's Gym earlier in the year and impressed the American's with his well-schooled style of boxing. He, from what I’ve been told – though Dean is too modest to say it himself – gave Paulie Malignaggi all the trouble in the world.

He got the slot on that Vegas show after Ricky Hatton, who Dean had done a bit of training with before his contest at the Wolverhampton Civic last month, recommended they put him on there.

Dean and Martin, who will really impress the American’s with his all-action fighting, have both told me they intend to put on dazzling performances over there.

Young Mutley was going to be on that Vegas card – they were looking for fighters with American-type styles – but he was too overweight when they asked and boxes in Walsall next Wednesday (November 28) instead.

Be interesting to see how big a test Murray will be given considering he seems on the brink of a shot at Thaxton.

I'm sure all this fighting over in the states on undercards and getting sparing off the likes of Hatton and Mosley has done Murray the world of good. Nice contrast with Amir who has basically been headlining his whole pro career. Very different styles but it will be interesting who comes out of it the more rounded pro

Can't see Khan happening without a title on the table, too much to loose with too little reward. Murray is young hungrey and its not clear how skilled he is. Better to wait 2 years and if he isn't that much cop go for it otherwise tell everyone he hasn't earned the right to fight you etc.

As I'm out in Vegas, I'll pop in and have a look - defo want to see Murray and get a first look at Dean Harrison.

Ed Robinson is doing a good blog on the Sky Sports website - worth a look, as he leaves for Vegas this week and I assume have all the goss and heads-up on what's going on out there. As he was a former boxer himself I prefer hearing what he has to say to be honest, although Johnny Nelson is pretty good too.

McEwan is getting a lot of good press from Oscar and the gang. They have high hopes for him and it's always good to see Murray over in the States.

Apparently the show starts fairly early (16.00) so it'll be hard for me to see it as my conecting flight won't be that early.

Martin Gethin on the big bill as well, looks promising. Couldn't they have got Steve Gethin a shot on the show as well? Then he could have said he got a big fight in Vegas before his former conqueror Amir Khan!

I knoiw a lot of fighters and promoters were contacted, yet GBP only got back in touch with who they felt would fit the bill. I think some are being mooted witout being confirmed too.
