Some of you may have witnessed the French heavyweight title fight on Eurosport the other night, in which Steve Herelius won the title in just his third pro fight by outclassing veteran Antoine Palatis over ten rounds. Herelius, a former kickboxing star, forced two standing eight counts in rounds six and seven - and won by scores of 100-86, 100-89 and 100-88. Southpaw Herelius is trained by Joseph Germain, mentor of WBA cruiser king Jean-Marc Mormeck, and while he failed to do what Matt Skelton did and stop the game Palatis (Skelton won in four rounds against Palatis earlier this year), there's no doubt the ludicrous standing counts saved Palatis from being stopped.
This kid looks just as good as Skelton.
France has its own Matt Skelton

Oh man he looked great, he's 27 years old, and I would say skill- and speedwise he's better than Skelton. On the other hand it looked like he lacked a little pop, I know Skelton stopped Palatis but let me tell you Palatis is one tough character. This was a title fight and maybe Palatis fought with a different attitude, and told himself he could use his experience against this 2-fight novice.
Also, it looked to me if Herelius stepped off the gas now and than, his stamina seemed good enough, but maybe he just wanted to get some rounds. Great progress for the frenchman, a 10-rounder against a veteran in your 3rd fight, gotta have respect for that.
The best part is: he weighed 198 pounds, which means, with the recent weight adjustments, Steve Herelius is a cruiserweight!
