Board got it wrong with Castro

The Board turned down Jorge Castro as an opponent for Enzo Maccarinelli last month in Cardiff and accepted a South African, Earl Morais, who ultimately collapsed in 90 seconds or so. On Saturday night, Castro captured the South American cruiserweight title with a win over Miguel Aguirre. In hindsight, the Board cheated the fans of a decent opponent when they rejected Castro.

I agree 100%. I think it might be more likely that the board rejected Castro because he was too dangerous, than him being a too easy opponent

Castro has 543534543 pro fights, and a KO ratio of about 80%.
He gave world class fighters Jirov and Briggs a hard fight recently, something that can not be said of Earl Morais, who fought most of his fights in his native country, and lost every time he went out of South-africa.

More importantly in all those 543534543 pro fights of Castro, he was only stopped once(!), by former cruiser champ JC Gomez.
I have no doubt Castro would at least have lasted about 6 rounds, in fact, I would say I am pretty sure he would've lasted the distance

Given the fact that Enzo never went beyond 4 rounds, this could have been interesting. But they blew it, basically

What do you guys think, lack of boxing knowledge from the board?

Yeah well, Lee Swaby was kind enough to point out to us that Maccarinelli has a major problem to deal with, Enzo better not face a puncher.
If you look at it that way Mr W. used his influence well.
I wonder how long the people will buy it

Dutch, do you know much about Italy's Vincenzo Gigliotti, who fights Esham Pickering for the vacant European super-bantam title next month? Is he any relation to Walter Gigliotti, for example, the European bantamweight champ of the 80's? I know it's a big ask.

The board certainly made a botch up when they rejected Castro in favour of that inept Morais, i mean Castro is a well respected campaigner who has fought the best in the world. I think it could have been a winnable fight for Enzo, i don't think Castro has ever been stopped although i may be wrong, he did give Briggs a good workout but mostly as a punchbag. It was pretty one sided after round 2 and Briggs was in danger of stopping him on a couple of occasions. The BBBC got this one wrong though.
