ARTHUR OUT TO BREAK FOSTER AND ENGLISH HEARTS
Alex Arthur says he'll put a smile back on the faces of Scottish sports fans next month - and break English hearts.
Arthur tackles Steve Foster Jnr on December 15 at the Meadowbank Stadium, Edinburgh, in the first defence of his Interim WBO World Super-Featherweight title.
The 29-year-old Scotsman took time out over the weekend to watch the nation's football team fall just short against Italy in a vital European Championship qualifier.
And with the entire country on a low following the nail-biting defeat, Arthur has vowed to give his fellow Scots something to cheer about.
"England always seem to get one over on us when it comes to football," said Arthur.
"While Scotland were losing to Italy, England got a massive slice of luck with Israel beating Russia, and I've had plenty of texts from my pals south of the border rubbing it in.
"But I've got a great chance of reversing Scotland's fortunes when I fight Steve Foster Jnr.
"There'd be a fantastic atmosphere if England and Scotland played tiddlywinks, so imagine what it's going to be like when I take on Foster.
"I'm backing my army of fans to really get behind me in this Battle of Britain and cheer me to victory. After all, it's always nice to get one over on the Auld Enemy.
"We're both heavy handed and like to go to war, so I think the fans will be in for a treat. The footballers may have come agonizingly close to winning, but I plan to make no mistake against Foster."
A former WBU World Featherweight champion and decorated amateur, 27-year-old Foster, says he his hitting much harder having stepped up to super-featherweight, a division where he feels much more comfortable.
Arthur, who has previously held British, Commonwealth and European titles, is looking to establish himself as a world class talent, and not only wants to win the full WBO title in 2008, but unify the 9'4 division.
just read the statement from alex regarding his army of fans in scotland,i was at his last fight in edinburgh where i was watching andy morris,alex was fighting some guy from belerus i think,that night was a real shock for me as the place was tiny{meadowbank} and less than half full,i know it was not a name opponent but the atmosphere was terrible,the locals i quizzed about his lack of support did not give me the impression he was as big a star up there as i thought,he has done really well recently and i hope he is'nt taking this fight for granted as i think foster will suprise a lot of people up there,going up in weight will do foster the world of good i beleive,i think it will be a great scrap and i hope the missig arthur fans turn up in there numbers as i am certain foster will have plenty of fans there,and the fight will get the great atmosphere this domestic clash deserves
Apparently its really difficult for him to sell many tickets in Edinburgh. I cant imagine why, but i remember when his fight with Gogoladze was first announced Arthur was quoted in our local papers saying how much he loves Newcastle and would love to bring the fight here as he knew people would come to support him. Very strange, i thought at the time.
Hi guys am in edinburgh and at the end of the day alex is disliked by some in the city, before he came across brash and arrogant but he has changed that now, and also he has openly came out as a hibs football fan eg by going out on the pitch with belts ect and therefore his lost a lot of fans. A lot of my good mates wont go to watch him purely because they hate hibs, madness i know this is just a few reasons i guess, also venue is terrible, cold uncomfy seat no drink ect.

That's what I used to wonder Mike but it seems like now Arthur is happy with his lot. If he had real world aspirations then surely he would admit he has won nothing on the world stage yet instead of calling himself a world champ. With Guzman having just fought, as soon as Foster is out of the way he should be calling him out. Haven't heard Arthur call out Guzman once yet...
He's already WBO interim champ, all he has to do is wait for Guzman to move up. I'm sure the news that Guzman was 148 on fight night at the weekend was music to his (and Frank's) ears.
Let's face it, even if Guzman hangs around for a few fights at 130, the WBO will probably never push for the two of them to meet, they'll be be happy to double their sanctioning fees for a while.
The WBO won't enforce anything, the only way it happens is if Warren/Arthur chase the shot.
A challenger chasing a shot at a champion!! Whatever next? Of course they will wait for the belt to become vacant, although AA already considers himself WBO champ
It's just all such a shame as a few months ago Arthur seemed quite genuine about wanting to fight the best and being a bit disillusioned by SN
