Yep i'm in agreement, Jose Mourinho would do for me, fair enough he's not English but i think he'd do a job, who else do we have thats English that could do the job? I think he'd take the job if he got offered it, but as i said earlier the FA would not have the bollocks to appoint him, he speaks his mind & the FA want no part of that, they like people that kiss their arses!

It dosnt matter where the manager is from if he's doing the job...

I think Jose is the only man to turn the fortunes of england into a team that would have a shouting chance of a world cup. Anyone else may get ye's to the wc but winning it would be out of the question.

Obviously the team needs new ideas.

A fresh approach is required and there is only one man appropriate for the job. Bring to the stage please Sir Clive (not Sinclair - you do not ideas that fresh). But there again maybe not.

I colud be a crap unenspiering coach for £4 million and I would put Lampard hargrives and Barry in if I was doing a 5 man midfield so we could have a chance of braking down there attacks!

Becks should have been dropped from the Captaincy (well he resigned anyway) but never dropped from the team - I am convinced had he been a regular under McClaren from the start he wouldn't have gone to the USA.... and whilst he delivered the outstanding ball, he looked well off the pace again today.

He is still one of your finest players, and I really do think McClaren holds a fair amount of the blame for his premature retirement (as an international standard player).

I remain to be convinced about Terry - I aint 100% certain that he should be in the side - I think it should be Carragher (demand he returns) and Ferdinand when everybody is available. There doesn't seem to be a person crying out for the Arm band - Gerrard (not on his last few showings), Lampard (please no), Owen (not available enough), Neville (as Owen)

About as useful as directing and managing a game of soccer with a rugby ball. Fooking hell I may have to actually take that one back. Sounds like a fun new invention of a sport.

I'm not sure if most 'over-hyped ' is strictly true. Most over-publicised may be nearer the truth, because I'm not sure if he was ever considered a great coach, even by the players who won the World cup under him. To a man, they all seem to agree that he was great at getting things in place, not great at coaching.

I think the World Cup win of 2003 granted him a status he perhaps didn't deserve though: The Lions tour of 2005 was a shambles, and Woodward's role with the B.O.A. perplexes me somewhat.

However, to give the man some credit, he did at least oversee a World Cup win. Graham Henry had perhaps the most talented group of players ever (and they certainly looked the business when they wiped out Woodwards Lions 2 years ago), and he had the sort of total control over their schedule that Woodward could only dream about, yet he fell short. So Woodward deserves some credit, even if most of the praise should go the the likes of Martin Johnson.

Perhaps his well deserved plaudits should be best directed to the underperforming area of amateur boxing with an eye  to accentuate his man management skills wherever thery're needed.

Oh sorry Amateur boxing is not in need of a svengali such as he he. But I think football needs someone like him to throw shit at, especially when things aren't going well - who better to chuck it at than a Sir with substance that likes to spread it thin. And there's always the outside chance that he may succeed.

yeah although i`m a liverpool fan and mourinho wasnt always top of our chrimbo card list he`s the right man for the england job.
he`s got the success behind him, the ego and the profile that will allow him to get instant repect from the players, no matter how big of a star they are (or think they are)
he can handle the big ego`s and gets everyone fighting for the cause.
he knows english footy and the psyche of english players unlike some of the other names like capello and scolari being banded about.
have the f.a got the bottle to appoint him.

Imagine the scenario - McClaren picks Paul Robinson and he does the same as Carson. You would get 'How many warnings did McClown need to drop him?' So Carson f+cks up and you get 'Why did he pick him?'

The truth is, you can't legislate or plan for the basic errors and unprofessionalism of some of those players last night. Ye Gods, have to agree about Wayne Bridge but he wasn't the only disgrace.

You can talk about tactics and formations until the cows come home but if the dingbats you put on the pitch make such fundamental errors, you've got no chance.

Getting a new manager is just papering over the cracks though it is inevitable. The game needs an overhaul and if the law allows it we need a quota to get English players in Premiership teams, for a start.

By the way, did you hear that FA Chairman Geoff Thompson spoke at a pre-match dinner and said 'Steve McQueen and the boys are up for it tonight'? :(

England need a manager who'll play players to their strengths...why have Crouch up there all on his todd when he usually plays 4-4-2? And he should have had Stewie Downing in there last night to get some crosses in from the left. And it wasn't just Carson's fault...what were the defence doing waving their hands in the air for Croatia's second goal...play to the whistle anyone.

Shame England are out though. I like the mindless, over-optimistic hype and semi-nasty jingoism the Euros and World Cup bring out in the English media.

On the plus side, as an Irish mate of mine remarked last night, at least going down the pub next June will be OK.

England need someone in charge who's tactically aware, got the bottle to make the big calls when necessary and doesn't just call up the best 16 and hope it makes a good team. Personally I'd try and get Guus Hiddink in.

What a shower of shite!!

The FA should be sacking themselves Barwick and co should be fcuked off for picking Steve McClaren over O'Neill in the first place, they wanted a yes man to do things in their way and theres no way O'Neill would have had any of that.

Mourinho or O'Neill would do me, but I don't think they'll be able to land either of them

:( :(

757million and they didnt put a roof on!

Whats more disgusting than the performance is Mclaren waiting to be sacked so he gets his compo. Should've done the right thing, like keegan, and walked away last night.

Your players aren't world class. End of story.

I enjoyed last night, might be a bit of a wake-up call for some of these £100k a week tarts with no passion.

It's the Welsh, the Scots and the Irish (and NI) who get the toughest groups, you couldn't even beat war-torn countries...shame :TU:

At least we are realistic!

Will England still be among the top seeds for the World cup draw - You betcha.

Glad that Scotland have been promoted to 2nd tier - Hope Northern Ireland are a bit higher aswell. Both team punched above their weight and deserve an easier time for the World Cup.
