Nelson wins. It wouldn't be that competitive either. Sorry, I like Chacon but Azumah is in a different class.

I gotta agree with you, Ezzard. With only 13 fights, Nelson was so good and got better as he got more experience. It will be an entertaining scrap all the way though, as long as it lasts.

Featherweights: Azuhma Nelson vs Bobby Chacon

Post by Crssbones »

What an incredible match up. Azuhma Nelson wins. Two of the biggest fighting hearts the WORLD has ever known. Nelson had a confidence level to go along with his determination and skill that was hard to beat. The only fighters in his prime he would have trouble with would be boxers with masterful foot and hand speed. IE: Pernell Whitaker, Floyd Mayweather type boxers. Chacon's face would be busted up. Not fighting defensive against Nelson was not the style to beat him. Chacon's right hand would not be enough to stop Nelson from coming forward as he could also take a punch well.

Bobby is one of my all-time favourites and I hate to pick against him, but Nelson on his best day was simply put a better overall fighter than Bobby was on his. I think Bobby can last the distance though if he is in peak physical condition, as he demonstrated when he was in top form that he can absorb an inhuman amount of punishment and keep on coming strong even in the late rounds.

I don`t think Azmah hit harder necessarily than a Limon and/or Boza did either, and if he did it wasn`t by much. Either way, Bobby hears the final bell, but loses a close and competitive decision to the Professor. But I will be the first to say that the Chacon who beat Bazooka Limon in their epic 4th encounter might have well beaten the best we saw of Nelson at 130.

Chacon was a man on a mission that night and was willing to go through hell and back to win that fight, as he had dedicated it to his late wife Valerie who had comitted suicide a year earlier. Bobby felt a lot of remorse and guilt over her death, and trained harder than he had ever done before leading up to the final Limon bout.

His stamina for that bout was exceptional, and his indomitable will was frightening yet beautiful to behold at the same time. Every time Limon hurt and backed him into a corner, Bobby came roaring back at him with all guns ablaze and forced him back into center ring. Now I know Azumah was a completely different fighter stylistically than Limon was and was by far the better boxer, but Bobby was a very underrated boxer himself.

Few fighters were as quick with the lead right hand as Bobby was, and he could slip and duck away from punches beautifully as he did against Danny Lopez in their bout. Most people do not remember that Chacon though, they only remember the blood and guts version of his that gave us all those memorable battles late in his career.

I still think that Azumah would win vs Chacon on each man`s best day, but it sure as hell wouldn`t be easy and Bobby would have damn sure made Nelson know he was in a fight.

I agree with you, man...Bobby Chacon was one of my favorite fighters in the 80s, but any version of Chacon could not beat even a novice of only 13 fights like Nelson
