What would Hatton's typical daily diet be when he's in
training? I'm going to shift this lard if it kills me.

Just been doing some reading on fat loss after having put on nearly two stone in 6 weeks.
Main things are.
1) Eat every 2-3 hours, consuming 6 high protein high carb meals a day, small meals, but good nutritious food, fresh veg, chicken, lean meats, pasta, brown rice etc. Don't pig out, but make sure you are never hungry, and keep your body ticking over.
2) Weight train and increase your muscle mass, as every extra lb of muscle you put on, will burn an extra 30-40 calories a day. 10 lb of extra muscle a day is therefore 300-400 calories burnt without even doing any exercise.
3) Do 30 minutes of cardio a day, this can be a cycle ride, a brisk walk, whatever you want, but make sure you get it every day, and ideally first thing in the morning BEFORE you eat.
4) Make sure that you eat just after weight training, as your body assimilates the nutrients best after the load has stressed the body.
5) Join calorie-count.com it's very good for keeping a diary of what you eat each day, which helps in getting a bead on what you are consuming.
I am currently 15 stone bang on, 210 lbs. I managed to get down to 186 during the summer just by eating regularly as above, and cycling to work every day, and avoiding drinking beer, in favour of white wine. That was the lightest I've been for years. It's probably as light as I really can be and be healthy, a lot of my mates told me I looked a bit gaunt at that weight.
I'm hopking to be down to 200 in three weeks time, which is a good start.

1st of all dont take any notice of what someone like Hatton does, ie losing 50 pounds in 6 weeks, or whatever it is (Mostly water, anyway). Also remember he is a world class athlete, and you probably are not
All of the above is good advice, just go and read a few diet and exercise forums, its not rocket science
Also, consider taking up smoking Crack or Crystal Meth, the weight just flies off.

http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/ is quite a good resource for picking up rough trade, sorry i mean diet and exercise routines.
I've just come back from Singapore and Bali, where everyone is thin or lean. when I'm abroad I tend to eat the local cuisine all the time, which in these two places consisted of rice , noodles, fish, chicken, vegatebles, fruit and seafood. The other thing is that they walk alot more, the kids in Bali cycle miles to school, its the sort of lifestyle and dietry style I have, no processed food, no dairy products (south east asians have very little dairy products, almost none) little or bread, very little starchy food (the odd bag of chips and rice only).
Im quite lean, I do muay thai, but I really beleive if you the average Joe, then just a change in what you eat (not a diet) and and an increase inexercise will shift those pounds quickly.
For snacks I eat nuts and fruit. I do eat the odd garbage but I'm not on a diet so I don't feel guilty.
NB when I cutdown dairy products and bread, my gut lost a couple of inches as well. I no longer have cereal and toast with milky tea for brekkie, a combination of fruit, eggs , juice and tea without milk.

I can't help on the cardio side, but I can help on the weight training side mate and what my diet consists of:
1) Eat/Drink protein within 45 minutes of training.
2) Try not to eat complex carbs after 6.00pm
3) Have a cup, or too, of coffee a day (preferably without sweetener or milk). Sppeds up the motab and is diaretic.
4) Porridge in the morning.
5) Plenty of water constantly throughout the day.
6) Eat little and often.
Alternatively eat a Caesar Salad in Philly, I lost 8lbs last week in 3 days with salmonella.

The body does not hold anywhere near 50lbs of water, maybe 10lbs at most depending on the personKhaosai-Galaxy wrote:1st of all dont take any notice of what someone like Hatton does, ie losing 50 pounds in 6 weeks, or whatever it is (Mostly water, anyway). I found eating after 6pm was a bad idea because you don't burn that food off as you are sitting in the house etc
Eating in the morning is good cause it gives you your energy for the day and you will burn it all off by bedtime.
Sucking a lemon in bed on an empty stomach is always good for a few ounces as the acid tries to eat any existing fat on you.
It is only worth taking the water off in the last few days

Lemon does not 'eat fat' that's cobblers. The reason lemon makes you lose weight is that it is a diuretic, it makes you excrete water, so the weight you lose is water weight, not fat. The only thing the acid would do on an empty stomach is give you a bad gut. The acid is neutralized during transit through the alimentary canal, so there is no way it could eat any fat cells from your body.Coco wrote:The body does not hold anywhere near 50lbs of water, maybe 10lbs at most depending on the personKhaosai-Galaxy wrote:1st of all dont take any notice of what someone like Hatton does, ie losing 50 pounds in 6 weeks, or whatever it is (Mostly water, anyway). You burn calories all the time, you burn more when exercising, but even sitting doing nothing your body will still tick over. Even when you are asleep you burn calories as the systems which run your body require energy. Also, if you are active at night, then there's nothing wrong with eating later.
Having said that, small regular meals are better than having a massive really late dinner, which your body will end up storing as fat.
I don't know where you get the figure of 10 lbs from for water weight either. That's only about four liters of water, as a liter is exactly 1 kg. There's a limit to how much you can dehydrate yourself and still survive of course, but given that the body is 80% water, I think it's safe to say that someone who weighs 200 lbs could shed more than ten pounds in water weight.
I'm talking from experience, i'm not saying what i'm saying is correct but it did work for me.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Lemon does not 'eat fat' that's cobblers. I used to do the thing with the lemon and it worked for a few ounces, but maybe that was just water, I assumed the acid broke down some fat in the same way drinking grapefruit juice after breakfast breaks down the meal in your stomach.
It may be an old wives tale, there are a lot in boxing!
Maybe the reason it was only good for a few ounces was because i'd dried out already.
I normally did not take on fluids for 72 hours prior to the fight and still train, normally with black bags onif I was tight- that was worth 4-6 pounds.
I normally fought between 132 and 136
I can't see how folk can lose more than that in water.
Ideally when you are sleeping you don't want to be burning of the food in your stomach you want to be burning fat stored, that is why I did not eat in the evenings, it's a habit which I have kept on as well

I know a lot of pro fighters used the lemon trick, but it is due to it's diuretic properties. I talked to Jimmy McDonnell recently, and he said he used to eat a lemon, and then sleep with three sweaters and two pairs of track suit bottoms, which would shift a pound or two of water in the night.
Fighters of today regularly put on between 15-25 lbs in weight between the weigh in and the fight, though of course, back in the days of same day weigh ins, this would not have been possible. That can only be water weight really, as there's no way that amount of weight could be shed and put back on so quickly.
There are a lot of things which are old wives tales, but still true. However, modern nutrition methods are the way forward for me; hard work is always required, but with correct science and nutrition it can be done so much better.
In fact, where Grapefruit juice is concerned, fruit should be eaten before anything else, because fruit breaks down the quickest in your stomach. If you eat someone beforehand, the fruit sits around in the gut and can ferment in there causing gas and stomach problems.
You are correct about the eating late at night, because most people are sitting watching TV and then going to bed. For me, I'm active between 10.00 and 2.00 or even 4.00 in the morning, so need to eat a bit later than most.

Yeah I'm between 14.5 and 15 stone. Went up last year. After 5/6 years of being about 13 stone and maintaining that by going to the gym 3/4 times per week (with a lot of cardio) it doesn't seem to matter now.jamesmcdonnell wrote:

Something to do with hitting my mid-thirties I guess :(
I've upped the running now, trying to run outdoors on days I don't go to the gym.
I suspect I'll see the biggest change if like you I knock the beer on the head, at least on week days.

I found that drinking wine instead of beer made a massive difference. A whole bottle of white wine will get you pretty spannered, and is about 75 calories a glass, so about what 4 1/2 glasses per bottle? That's only 400 calories for a whole bottle.
Strong beer is about 250 a pint, and you will easily sink four pints, probably six or more, so well over 1000.
Also spend less time pissing at the pub which is good.
I am enjoying following my guideline of six meals a day, just had saveloy, chips, mushy peas and haddock, and will be having steak pie in three hours time!

funny you bring the wine into play......i've been around boxing for a few years now but just recently starting to have a go myself......nothing too drastic at this time/
It has come quickly to my attention that beer is the enemy of conditioning. I am currently 3/4s of my way through a lovely bottle of pino gricho and am feeling in great shape. Well it is the first drink I've had in about 10 days.
Small steps gentlemen, small steps.

Ok you guys are convincing me that wine is the way forward!
Given up smoking for 2 months now (had never given up previously and it's been quite easy so that is that), running 5/6 miles 2/3 times per week plus gym 2/3 times (with no little cardio) per week, which just leaves the odd day off.
I can't see me knocking beer on the head before Xmas though - have to be Jan 1st.

If it helps I shifted about 3 stone in 6 months a couple of years ago.
I did 30-40 mins on an exercise bike 6 times a week and played 6-a-side for an hour once a week.
Eating-wise I ate a mixture of bran flakes and that cruchy muesli stuff for breakfast, and a mix of fresh fruit and low fat yoghurt for lunch. For dinner I made homemade soups (and didn't did bread in!) and instead of beer on an evening drank whisky. About once a week I had to eat bigger meals as I went out for dinner.
I had to show discipline and resolve to avoid snacking.
The hardest thing is feeling hungry at odd times - I work shifts so get hungry during night shifts and end up eating crap. James' idea about eating 6 small meals would help me here I suspect!!

Quickest I've lost is about 15lbs in 2 weeks, mostly from dieting (Consuming about 800-1200 calories a day) and minimal exercise.
Best I've lost is 21lbs in 7 weeks from alot of exercise(2-3 hours 4-5 times a week at the gym) and proper dieting (high quality food but consuming 2400-3000 calories a day), gained alot of muscle in that short time as well.
Lots of good protein - eggs, milk, cottage cheese, fish, and poultry. High quality veggies like spinach, and I like to use good multi-grain bread for complex carb intake.
I recommend option #2.
You can lose weight quicker by dieting, but if you lose the weight proper it has a better impact on your health, and is more likely to stay gone as well.

A lot of the weight lost from crash dieting is muscle mass, as well as water weight due to restricted calories. The effect is loss of muscle tone, and then your metabolic rate slows down, and the minute you stop dieting, your body starts storing fat.Tantum wrote:Quickest I've lost is about 15lbs in 2 weeks, mostly from dieting (Consuming about 800-1200 calories a day) and minimal exercise.

That's why so many of those hollywood women are really skinny but with bingo wing arms, they've lost all their muscle tone through a cycle of crash dieting and balooning in weight.
The great thing about doing a lot of exercise is that you can eat more!
