LONG NIGHT FOR RICKY BUT NOT A VERY PAINFUL ONE

Post by DIRT SUGAR »

Just watched the second Mayweather v Castillo fight and it's just brought me down to earth a bit after I've been getting a bit too carried away thinking what a great chance Hatton has got of beating Mayweather.

I can just see a really frustrating night for Ricky as he gets picked off with counter after counter. PBF gave a peak Castillo (taller, longer reach than Ricky) the runaround and I just see him doing the same to Hatton.

I just don't think PBF will allow Ricky any real chance to get to him and will just tie him up the whole night and pick him off and I just don't see Ricky being able to establish a jab that will compete with Mayweather's, where-in lies the sole chance (IMHO) Hatton has of working his way close enough to do any damage.

All one can hope is that Mayweather's legs aren't what they once were and even if they're not, he moves so efficiently that I don't think it'll be a factor.

Got three to five-point on the cards decision in favour of PBF written all over it for me now:-(

I'd be welcome if anyone can cheer me up and make me feel any differently with their opinion.

Floyd is hitting harder now than he was during that period... He had hand problems which seem to have cleared up somewhat. He should up Oscar De La Hoya and anhilated Gatti.

Sorry, its not a cheery post - but I do think people are thinking that Hatton is going to walk through Floyd, when I think Floyd's accuracy and timing will stop Ricky in its tracks.

I so hope I am wrong.

You make it sound like they're a pair of marathon runners and Hatton won't be able to catch him

And not sure what your pojt is with Floyd v Castillo 2 is, Castillo was very lazy and still it was a close fight on thescorecards.

If Castillo can get close I'm sure Hatton can with his supieor footwork.

Mayweather is a different fighter to the guy who struggled(ish) vs a prime Castillo. Instead of running and poking pitta patta shots. He now nails you with 2 and 3's as you are coming in.

I would definately favour Hatton over the Floyd with the bad hands - but the Floyd who now throws with evil intent as a fighter is coming in... No, sorry.

That's the thing... I don't think Ricky will be able to catch him enough to really make any impact.

Mayweather will break up his attacks as Ricky comes in.

And yes Hatton has superior footwork to Castillo, but the Mexican was taller, hence he didn't need to get as close as Ricky will.

While in no way do I see it as a blow out, I just see Mayweather boxing to orders and pulling away on the cards.

Also depends what Hatton can get away with when he gets up close. Guarantee Floyd will be able to pull his head down lock his arms up and the ref won't say a word, but the minute Ricky bulls in and tries anything.... I think you know what I'm getting at.

If Ricky can stay in range, time Floyd's sharp counters and then get stuck in, he's in the fight, no question, but I just feel he's going to get countered to bits.

I'd go watch the DLH fight, Floyd is a 1 shot fighter more so now then he was at lower weight classes.

And his hands haven't magically got better, he still has treatment on them a number of times a week as in 24/7 episode 2.

Mayweather throw with 'EVIL INTENT'??? When the fook has that ever happened???

He was throwing patty cake at DLH. He barely scraped by a 35 yr old multi-sqillionaire last time out.

If Tszyu couldnt budge Ricky, Floyd wont.

Ricky will take this guy into the trenches and beat the tar out of him.

Okay, but at welterweight and against a smaller fighter such as Hatton, one would think Mayweather will be more active, sore hands or not.

im more interssted int he fact that an ageing (heavier and therefore slower) de la hoya up at light middle could still out work floyd. If Oscar can do it for 6 rounds dont bet against Ricky being able to do it for longer, Oscar only needed one more round and no one would be talking about PBF as the 2nd coming of christ.

fact is he did enough but it wasnt impressive to me not by a long way.

Correct, Floyd barely throw 1 combo in the whole fight v DLH, if it wasn'y for DLH's terrible condition Floyd would of been in big trouble, but mist people will argue that that's because DLH is heavier then Hatton.

No he ain't hitting harder. He has cronic hand problems like Calzaghe. They've been operated on twice. This is part of the reason he hasn't stopped a fighter since Gatti.

DLH's terrible condition? Geez. He must have been in some kind of shape to fight 12 rounds. Two very skillful, thinking fighters trying to work each other out, makes for a tiring fight.

Don't care what anyone says, just see Hatton getting outboxed that's all. And remember how long it took him to subdue a 35-year-old Tszyu.

Ask Shamba Mitchell, post Gatti if he hasn't stopped anyone!

Yes it was pretty terrible conditiong for 2 of the 3 biggest fighters in the past 20 years.

Hatton will work at twice a pace of DLH, and that's a fact.. out boxed or not.

Christ the DLH character is awful - god he must be useless.

I don't care if DLH has lost a little of his hand speed - he is still faster handed than Ricky. He is still an absolute ATG and did demolish Ricardo Mayorga.

Floyd had Oscar in as much trouble as Mayorga did, who is a big strong Welterweight.

Yeah, Floyd's stoppage presentage at 147 above isn't great - but lets not forget he has only fought at the weight or above 4 times - Against 2 notoriously hard heads, one tricky opperator to catch clean (who Cotto showed has a tougher chin than credited for) and Shamba Mitchell who he stopped.

Now, I aint suggesting Ricky isn't durable - but if Floyd's speed and ACCURACY can hit and hurt DLH - then he can hit and hurt Ricky also.

I stand corrected. But he has failed to stop his last three oponents, and couldn't really rock any of them. Closest was DLH whom he caught flush with a full bodied left hook at the end of round 12 (I think) and he didn't move.

Floyd has exceptional speed, but his power isn't the same as it was and he openly admits his hands are not what they were. At SFeather and Lightweight his power was abnormal but not at Welter. More weight doesn't necessarily mean more power.

Floyd has far, far, far better speed than Hatton, but not power. Hatton hits harder than most, if not all, LW and a lot of W.

As I said though, takes a pretty special powerful fighter to KD or KO DLH and Baldomir - there is no way Ricky could do it, for example. So really the lack of a punch at 147 is only being judges on the Judah fight... yes, I agree there - I expected Floyd to KO Zab.

I am not disputing that Floyd is a harder puncher than Ricky, no way is he. I am also not disputing that Floyd isn't hitting as hard as when he first came on the scene as a Super Feather. However, I do think when his hands really started playing up - Jesus Chavez, Castillo fights - he did change the his punch technique and threw less shots, with less venom and elected to run.

All I am saying is since his run at 140 - he is now throwing more leather and looking to stoppages than previous. He seems to be more confident that his hands will not give way again... well, its either all this or he had an absolute bollocking for HBO regarding his negative performances... Around the time of the Ndou fight - he changed his approach... and its an approach that I think hurts Hatton's chances.

If he can hurt DLH and I think he hurt him a tad more than your crediting him - no never close to a stoppage, but made DLH hold.... DLH was taken aback by his power, then he can hurt Hatton.

Staggered badly?

He was slightly caught by surprise a few times because of Flyds speed, he wasn't over 1% of danger of going down.

Hmm, I don't think he was. Certainly didn't see this live at the venue or on DVD. What round?

Mosley
Judah
Williams
Margarito
Cintron
Witter
Torres

All hit harder than Hatton, I believe Hatton is a good puncher to the body but not a heavy hitter to the head.
