How many 'world' boards are there?

I've just noticed on a piece by Oliver over at BBN that someone fought for a UBO title! Not sure if this is supposed to be a 'world' title or not though.

Come on, can Boxrec forum users come up with a definitive list of how many organisations purport to be 'world' sanctioning authorities?

I'll take the hard ones:

1. WBA
2. WBC
3. IBF
4. WBO

If you number them and don't repeat any we might be able to keep a tally but I predict this will mess up by about post four.

Not very. I'd say most of those "active" bodies have only a couple of champions. I wonder if we could get one of the more obscure bodies to sanction a vacant world title fight between two Boxrec members making their pro debuts. I don't see why not. Imagine it, Heavyweight Champion of the World.

WBS turned into the WBE.

WTBF, WBCC, WCO, WFC and WBBureau are a couple of (highly esteemed) others.

The UBO do a lot of African fighters, if Oliver's piece was about Rukundo.

WBF is the WBFoundation. That's the one Audley fought for when at his peak, and run by the boy Croucher.
WBFederation is run by a chap from his attic in co. Durham. I think Bash Ali is the first and last champion ever to give them a sanctioning fee.

TWBA is Iberian.

WCOB is now defunct, and I have never, ever heard of the IBL or IBB being active. I'm sure someone just imagined them, and now every sanctioning body list made from now on includes them.

GBH is going to sanction fights in prisons.

NABC is not a "world title", it's a North American one.

The WAA is a "junior" version of the WBB. If you win a WAA title, you become eligible for a WBB shot. How's that for incentive!

I've also heard the WBB belt is made of bright blue vinyl, with cheap plastic gold-colour garlands on the front. Nice!

The first (and so far only) WBS/WBE heavyweight champion was Mitch Green, aged 45, who beat Danny Wofford for the honour (Wofford was then running at something like 93 losses).

Esham Pickering has fought for a TWBA and Ashley Theophane holds a GBO. Henry Akinwande won a WBN.

NBA is not the same as the highly-esteemed breakaway championshoip of the 1920s. China Smith is a former heavyweight world champion. 'Nuff said.

Question: What was the belt Jawaid Khaliq used to parade which had bright red leopard print on the back?

No, it's definitely WAA to WBB.

Sorry for my massive faux pas about the GBO, though. It does betray my lack of knowledge about the sport.

Another bit of miscellania.

The WAA or WBB (I can't remember which one) evolved from the much-maligned Penta-Continental title which was popular on ITV in the early 90s.
