2007 Olympic Test Event "Good luck Beijing"
Not the strongest field as most countries participate with their 2nd teams but at least the US take part with their No 1 team, including Warren and Andrade.

Warren and Andrade are not boxing in the test event.
Because Warren has stiches from when his tooth got knock out, they won't let him box. Andrade has impacted wisdom teeth in Chicago and had them removed when the worlds where over and the US team won't let him box but he is in China with the team.
The whole US team is in China but only four will box in the test event, the other are there for the duals with China and Kazhikstan

The test event is only boxing 6 weight classes. Sadam Ali has won 2 bouts, Deontay Wilder has won 1, Raynell Williams won his 1st and won by walkover in his 2nd bout and Hunter spanked the Indian boxerin his only bout. The semis go on wednesday and the finals thursday. None of the other countries have their best boxers competiting. The US has their best because they need all of the international experience they can get which they will also get with the duals with China and Kazhitstan.Dennis wrote:I wonder how it was decided who would participate in the test event versus who would compete in the duals. Why isn't Yanez competing in the test event? What about Downs, Estrada and Molina?

The US boxers are gaining that international experience that is critical to be able to perform well in international competitions. The US does need to get more boxers involved in international competitions. More duals and international competitions in the US and a bunch more duals outside of the US. Every boxer in the top 10 should get the opportunity to compete at least once in an international competition. If we did that, we would have better boxers who would then make everyone else in the US better and our Olympians would win more medals.
I know the above would cost $$$$, but I'm told that the money is there from the USOC and USA Boxing just needs to send the teams. I also want to say that more coaches should be selected for these competitions to give them that experience.
Finally, I will say once again that we need more coaches clinics. I believe we will be having a level 3 and possibly a level 4 clinic at the 2008 National Golden Gloves in Grand Rapids, MI. I hope that many coaches will participate so that we have more coaches that can then participate in international competitions.

Actually, they have many duals scheduled for '08 but have not posted them yet for some reason. Maybe contracts have not been signed yet...just guessing.Dennis wrote:Funding is available for international competitions, but none are scheduled for 2008. Why not? There should be many scheduled. Some for the Olympians and some for the rest of the top 10 boxers.
So the Harvey, IL show isn't happening this Saturday? Do you have a date for February? USA Boxing's website still lists it for this Saturday.boxmel wrote:Email Jeff Steffen or Andrew Madigan in the Events Department and ask them. I do know there is a USA-Mexico in San Diego coming up and the USA-Romania in Harvey was postponed to February.
