The loss of Truman Tuttle past president of Golden Gloves

Truman Tuttle died Sat at 81 years of age after battling illness for the past couple years. He held the Washington D.C. Golden Gloves franchise for many years and was a past National Golden Gloves president for 6 years.
He ran an inner city boxing program in Hillcrest Hieghts MD and was a main figure in boxing for the Maryland, D.C. area. He will be missed and remembered by the many coaches and boxers that he trained, including a very young boy named Sugar Ray Leonard among the hundreds of others.

USA Boxing also lost a great past President in Pat Duffy. Pat was manager of the 1960 and '68 Olympic teams. He also managed some great Philly pro boxers like Bennie Brisco and Sonny Liston.
Pat was a classic old time boxing guy who be missed as will Truman Tuttle.

I didn't know Pat Duffy personally but I aways heard good things about him.
They were in the middle of the mix when boxing was in a hey day. You are right, they will be missed.

Bennie Brisco - now there is a name from the past. He was one tough Philly fighter.

I hope some young guys start to replace the older leaders of USA Boxing, National GG, National PAL, etc or we are going to be left with nobody to run amateur boxing. You have to keep invigorating the sport with new blood and allow them to take on some leadership roles. Hal are you ready to step to the plate?

Allow me to whine for a moment, I work full time, run a non- profit gym that I am at 5 nights a week for 2.5 hours a night, Tavel the 2.5 hours to Balt and DC for all the shows and I am in the midst of building a brand new 10,000 sq ft building for our new boxing facility, I manage and train a pro as you know, who I take to Baltimore and D.C. once or twice a week for sparring. I am in charge of most of the fundraising I have to do to complete the new gym, and to keep the heat on and the rent paid in th old gym. I also try to do some extra ciricular activities like the up and coming Christmas and roller skating party for my kids. My daughter lives in Co and I hardly get to see her, My wife who is president of the program works harder than I do, so I hardly get to see her. my Mom who is getting up there in age lives in upsate NY so I have to run up once in a while to see her. Which committee do want to put me on? Dam! I never saw it all written down before. Now, sorry you asked?

You actually come up to the PVA that often for events? Damn, that's a lot of driving man, they have a lot of shows in that area. Who's your pro?

Kolya, Unless we hold a show which has been very seldom, we have to travel to the western shore for everything. I can be to most places in approx 21/2 hours. I have done it so much I can put the car on cruise and let go of the wheel. It really isn't that bad. I did miss our LBC meetining Thur because I was there on Wed. Oh and my boxer is a young man named Fernando Guerrero.
Dennis, I have made sincere offers to be of any assistance that I could to Jim Millman. If he did call on me to do something for USA Boxing I would do everything I could to help. Although like so many others I don't always agree with the way things are done or have been done in the past, but I do believe in amateur boxing and am trying to do what I can at the local level to keep it strong and positive in the publics eye. But the idear of having a lawyer that is so involved in this sport as you are keeps me thinking of all the possibilities that you could bring to the table.
