I am not going to get into a pissing contest with you. There is no right or wrong - just differences of opinions. I'm also not a proponent of personal attacks. Let's just agree to disagree and move on.

I agree with some of the things that JohnDoe has been saying. USA Boxing can indeed influence AIBA to "allow" personal coaches to corner their athletes. They just don't choose to do so. They have been pushing personal coaches as far away as they can, and that is not beneficial to the boxers. A coach that has brought a boxer to the elite level, or his designee, is the right person to be with that boxer where ever he competes. No wonder the USA is having trouble bringing home Gold--they shuffle the boxers from their coaches to an entirely different situation, different styles, different everything, and are expected to perform at their peak.

And I agree with the anonyminity of the posters of this forum. We have seen many opinions voiced here that might not otherwise be heard, and this country in based on free speech for all. Not just those at the top, but all of us. Those at the top of the pecking order have the power to make things bad for those who speak out if they don't like what is said. Most of us just want to make things better, and discussing the issues helps everyone sometimes. Most of us are already doing everything we can and more to help make our sport the best it can be. It is just so frustrating to have our own governing body stonewalling the growth of the coaches toward the international arena.

I don't know the personal habits of Dan, possibly because I don't hang out with him and his friends, and I suspect that Mel doesnt either.

I agree with having personal coaches being involved as I have said numerous times in various posts.

John Doe is completely right, which is why I started this thread. The boxers and personal coaches are not happy with Dan Campbell's regime. Warren/Andrade are doing well because of the teaching they have had at home, other than those two....how many medals will this team win....probably 0. The reality of this situation is that, all these kids are trying to keep with the program because they all have been boxing for their whole lives, to do one thing, to be US Olympians. The athletes are concerned about voicing concerns because they don't want to lose their spots....if they did voice there concerns the current regime would be gone. I was for the residency program at first, but seeing how its being run, I'm against it. The current staff cannot improve these kids, and that's reality. If the staff was so good, where are all the boxers they built?

Maybe that Bill Belichick guy from the Patriots can come give Dan Campbell some lessons on how to lead a team. Maybe make it a level 5 certification?

Not worries, some kids will make it and some won't. I feel bad for the ones who don't have a great coach to sneak out with at night in Colorado Springs and give them proper training while "Camby" works on his circle drills and his Hennessey shooters.

In the end, though, the personal coaches have some blame themselves. Campbell forced them all to sign the paperwork for the camp with his "we're going to kick you off the team if you don't sign" tactics which was completely illegal but none of the personal coaches protested or got together or acted on this...so I guess they just have to deal with it. Gotta' fight for your rights to fight.

I bet there are going to be a lot of sick boxers during the holidays who are just too sick to make it back to Colorado for a few weeks....

Just like they can influence the IOC - not!
Those at the top of the pecking order have the power to make things bad for those who speak out if they don't like what is said
.

So you're saying that if you state who you are, the "top of the pecking order" will somehow reach out and do you harm? Isn't that being rather paranoid?

Suspicions aren't always accurate. I have "hung out" with Dan on numerous occasions over the years - during and after boxing tournaments and at boxing social events. I have never seen him drunk and/or with a bottle. Just my point of view.

Mel - 3 boxers were sent home from Colorado Springs this fall. I think people are worried about speaking out against the perceived injustices and/or problems. I think it is a more powerful message when an individual uses his or her real name, but the anonimous postings can still be helpful at times. If JohnDoe has a boxer in Colorado, I understand why he is not revealing his real name. If not, then I'm not sure why he is so afraid.

Why? Because they had a run in with staff? Or because they were misbehaving? Or just plain didn't want to be there? Boxers being sent home doesn't necessarily mean there is something wrong with Colorado Springs. I can tell you of many instances where athletes have been kicked out of Colorado Springs due to their screwing up.

However, if there is any truth to suspicions that Dan Campbell is misbehaving, especially in public, it needs to be addressed in Colorado Springs - not on this forum.

The only problem I can see personally is that there has been the problem with not utilizing the personal coaches, working boxers with different body types and styles all the same, and possibly some favoritism in who is wanted on the team. The rest is hearsay. I do not have first hand knowledge. I have talked to Quantis Graves and Charles Hatley and they were kicked out of camp (along with Danny Garcia) because they had girls in the room. It was a violation of the code of conduct, but there have been many others that have been ignored. I'm not saying that being the head coach is easy. I've done it with teams and it is difficult. In fact I'm pretty hard-nosed and wouldn't put up with a lot of the crap that some coaches allow.

I really don't like having certain athletes where they are superstars and their rule violations are ignored while they are enforced against others. I can't say that is happening in Colorado, but it happens in all sports even high school sports (or should I say especially high school sports).

Dennis, I agree with everything you say. Would you believe! :D However, I don't believe hearsay has a place here especially when it may or may not impact a specific person.

No hearsay? What? Come on, this isn't a court of law. Heck, even there we have numerous exceptions to allow for the admission of hearsay under certain conditions. :D :D :D

Whatever. I bow to popular opinion and will no longer kvetch when a person is specifically targeted. I'll just ignore.

It's unfortunate that gyms can't stay open in smaller states. I really don't know that the problem is. We have over 100 gyms in the Los Angeles area and 1800+ registered athletes. And we don't get smaller - we get bigger. :o

Does Los angeles have 100 AM gyms ?,
The Southern California Assn. of amateur boxing has 100+ gyms. Please take my word for it; I'm not going to continue to argue the point.
