Oleg Platov vs. Danny Williams

I see on the BoxRec schedule there's been an opponent change for young Ukrainian heavyweight Oleg Platov for his Dec 8 fight. It now shows he'll be facing Danny Williams.

If this is correct, it'll be a good step up for Platov and a heck of a fight. Platov is very aggressive and has an excellent workrate, and as we all know, Williams is a tough cookie.

I have to admit i've never seen Platov but always hear his name mentioned with all the other European prospects and assumed he was on the verge of this kinda fight.
I've just had a quick look at his record though and the only person he's fought in the top 200 in the world is a 41 year old Henry Akinwande! This is an absolutely huge step up if a fit and ready Williams turns up, and even if he comes in fat and overweight he'll be miles better than anyone Platov's faced before.

Akinwande was age 40 and Platov was 23 when they fought last year. Like Skelton, Akinwande is still a difficult opponent even at his age - his experience may have played a role in that fight being close.

But yes, Danny Williams represents quite a step up for Oleg Platov, and this fight will give us some idea of the young Ukrainian's potential.

If this came at late notice, then Danny surely won't be in shape.

Agree with the above, a 40-year-old Akinwande is still a serious proposition at European level. Platov beating him was actually an upset.

Agreed-- Akinwandes loss to Platov was a shocker at the time. Akinwande is still 6'7'' with huge arms and a perfected style of frustration, non-combant holding and long range jabbing and hitting.

I think Akinwande is a waaay more difficult opponent than Williams, who'll be right there in front of Platov.

Did Platov beat Henry though? I've heard that Akinwande was a bit unlucky to get the decision.

I've seen Platov a few times, he's alright - not World title class, but I think is good enough to be in contention. He looked good giving Colin Kenna a bit of a pasting.

Shit the bed- ANOTHER fight for december 8th!!!

Is there some incredible sports bar that can braodcast ALL the fights that night? If so, every single Boxrec member should make it their duty, nay, God given purpose-in-life, to get down there and all unload our wallets into the bar, getting completely mullured throughout Eastman/Duddy, Abraham/Elcock, and collapsing in a drunken stupor and missing Hatton/Mayweather.

Lots of interesting fights on December 8, yet not a single one on Dec 1. It always seems to work that way - some weekends there's nothing, yet others there's several big fights.

Infact, was'nt they supposed to rematch?

The only time I see Platov was against Kenna.He was pretty dirty in that fight!

I didnt mean his fight with Akinwande would have been easy, i realise Henry's still a very good boxer but he's the ONLY name on there who posed any kind of threat. I'd even go as far as saying Roman Greenberg's fought better opposition.

Platov might be beatable for Danny, actually - he was, after all, under consideration as one of Holyfield's comeback opponents.

Not really a yard stick. Think Colin took this on fairly short notice (Billy/Dirk, correct me if I'm wrong) amongst other things.

Sky Sports will be showing Power-Napa, and hopefully the excellent Munyai on the undercard

If Platov, age 24, has improved during the past year he'll defeat Williams. If he's no better than he was against Akinwande, he'll lose.

I think probably has improved, or else they wouldn't have him in against Williams...

I do not rate anyone who is on the 'world stage' who takes 10 rounds to knock out Colin Wilson. Thats laughable.

I am going for Danny here, similar to the Gammer fight. Danny will have too much at the end and will win by a KO anytime beyond round 9.

Lets hope Danny can come in at around 106-108 KG's!!
