ALEX Arthur will not only put his WBO world title belt on the line against Steve Foster in Edinburgh later this month, but also his dream of becoming a world champ at three different weights.

The WBO interim super-featherweight world title holder knows his days in the 9st 4lb division are numbered and, so long as Englishman Foster, pictured, can be dispatched at Meadowbank on December 15, Arthur plans one final defence at that weight before stepping up to lightweight and finally light-welterweight.

His dream is to emulate Edinburgh's Ken Buchanan by wining a world title at lightweight, and then going one better in what would be a stellar career by stepping up again and becoming light-welterweight king of the world.

The Edinburgh champ said today: "I'm 29 this year and I have to make sure these plans become possibilities in 2008 as frankly time isn't on my side.

"I mean to knock Steve Foster out then in 2008 I want to move up to lightweight and emulate Ken Buchanan who won that title at world level in 1970.

"Then, after defending my world lightweight title I'd want to finish my career by winning the world light-welterweight title to become a triple world champion.

"Let's face it, even at lightweight I'm huge at the weight and can punch so that will be the next logical step for me."

Arthur fully expects the current world WBO super-featherweight world champion, Joan Guzman, to relinquish his title to him so long as he conquers Foster a week on Saturday and the next step would be a defence against Juan Marquez, the current world WBC super-featherweight champion, before making his move up the weights.

"I mean to knock Steve Foster out then, once I've been confirmed as undisputed champion, as I fully expect, then I will have one voluntary title defence against Marquez, preferably in Edinburgh, but after that it will be goodbye to the super-featherweights.

"I want to move up and if that means in the fullness of time Amir Khan and I clashing then so be it - that would be a mega fight which I would win.

"Then, after defending my world lightweight title I'd want to finish my career by winning the world light-welterweight title to become a triple world champion.

"Those plans are what will motivate me against Foster - that and also the sure knowledge that if I don't do a number on Foster at Meadowbank it will all just be fantasy."

Foster uses a style of boxing favoured by many Mexicans - a come-forward, attacking game - and Arthur is hoping to begin sparring with a Mexican at Meadowbank soon.

Foster's not the only Manc to have a come forward style, It seems to be favoured In that region.

Foster has Arthurs number IMO.

They were both very good amateurs and I think this fight will be a classic. Howver, I do feel that Foster Jnr has more power and will stop Arthur. He's not the first Manchester Lad to go up there and stop him

Firstly - Welcome back - not heard from you for a while.

Secondly - Foster can hit, and arthur can get caught. If it's over in 6, I can see Foster winning it.

Don't get me wrong, I rate Arthur highly - he is a nice lad too. I just have a feeling that Steve Foster will cause an upset.

Stevie has shown real character by stepping up and I for one, think he has a very good chance.

Its easy to get carried away thinking Foster has a better chance than he realistically has, but no way will he beat AA - If Khan was to get it on with him at lightweight, again Alex would win - Alex is an intelligent man and an intelligent boxer who has a target and knows how best to achieve his aims - The Gomez loss was good for him, before that fight he believed he was unbeatable - His attitude to fights has changed since then and he takes every opponent more seriously.

Yes but I wonder if Alex has a bit of tounge in cheek with what he says. 'Undisputed Champ', 'Marquez fight', '3 Weight Champ'

Yep I'm sure Witter will accomodate Alex if he wants a shot at the WBC Light-Welter title.

hah yeah there isn't even a vacant WBO belt for frank to muscle in on. To do what he says he would have to beat any of Diaz, Casamayor, at LW ricardo torres..

true, Arthur is talking nonsense. I think ppl want to see Foster Jr give him a good spanking for it.

God knows what AA is talking about being undisputed. He's just waiting for Guzman to vacate the title, so that AA becomes champ by default without facing a world class opponent.

I hope to hell that Arthur and Lockett don't win "world" titles because ther'es enough nonsense champs in the world.

Boxing politics dictates that Diaz will have to give up a title at some point in the future. AA & Rabbit hole can sit on the WBO until then.
