Hatton at Welterweight

Post by Cannibal »

Looking at all the build up vids. Is it just me or does Welter seem to suit Hatton?

I know he struggled against Collazo but that was a short notice weight jump and he's had time to prepare this time.

Hatton just looks like he is in the best shape of his career and the added muscle mass is very noticeable I think, especially around the shoulders but it doesn't seem to have slowed him down any.

EDIT: I also thought he looked a bit drained against Castillo, maybe his Light Welter days were at an end anyway.

I don't think fighting at Welter will be a major problem in this fight. Mayweather won't be coming in at 160 lbs like a lot of other natural Welters might. Hatton will probably still outweigh him on the night.

Hatton reportadly weighs 155+ on fight night according to Kerry Kayes. Ofcourse only draining to 147 will help him ALLOT

Yeah I'm not surprised by that. Floyd will probably be 152 lbs or under.

According to Floyd he was 147/148 against Delahoya - less than his weigh in weight.

Hatton will be at his peak by fighting at 147 and he won't have a 160+lb 147lber if you know what I mean

Its hardly Leonard v Hearns I is it.

Hearns at 6'2" and Leonard at 5'10 1/2 they were fully fledged welters with the weigh in on the day.

It should be a good fight, but Williams v Cotto might be better.

I remember Mayweather slagging off Hatton as a midget but he is only 5'6" to Mayweathers 5'8", he hardly dwarfs him.

you are all getting dragged into the hype, we were all, me included, making the same comments prior to the collazo bout, the extra weight will suit ricky etc....in truth, it didnt.

i hope we are not going to be subject to the same evidence this time.

come on ricky..spank the yank !!!

Collazo was a higher level than Ricky's used, bigger and a tough style match up and threw lots of volume.

Ricky probably slept on Collazo expecting an easy KO too

As mentioned above, Ricky had weeks, not months, to grow into 147. Therefore his stamina will be far better than it was versus Collazo, as Ricky faded in the latter rounds.

Not really true, Ricky weighs 155 on fight night at 140, I'd accept the excuse that he slept on Collazo or it was a tough style against a bigger slick foe.

Ricky weighed 159/160 against Collazo

This fight imo is about stamina/speed/skill not size/strength as in those terms they aren't far apart. If Ricky has focused on strength at the expense of stamina he will pay for it

There's a pic of Hatton against Collazo, I think he looks MUCH much stronger this time around. Does anyone have any photo's of Hatton now to compare, I couldn't find any on google.

If I only have a few weeks (3 I believe) to put an extra 7 pounds on my 140 frame, then my stamina will suffer because I'm having to eat foods that will allow me to put the extra weight on quickly. It could be that Kerry used the Dorian Yates weight gain, I'm not sure, but if I put on a large amount of weight in a short period of time I struggle with stamina for weeks until my body adjusts to the weight. And boxing is obviously far worse that simple weight training.

Ricky comes down in weight, hes not putting 7lbs of muscle on, he just doesnt need to cut 7lbs of water weight. Rickys natural fighting weight is 155lbs. Ricky didnt really put on any extra weight for Collazo, maybe 3-4lbs MAX and thats not much

He was preparing for a LW fight before he took the Collazo fight on short notice so chances are he was already at 140. As on 24/7, Ricky comes in at fight weight a few weeks before the day, not the day of the weigh in.

Ricky clearly stated that him being so light that early is NOT THE NORM.
