Can’t record Hatton Mayweather
Can’t record Hatton Mayweather
My plan is to go out Saturday night and head back with a few pals to watch the fight
Just tried to Sky + from 11pm when the prog starts and got some kind of ‘this is not possible’ message.
Anyone know the deal with this and whether there is any way to get around it?
cheers

As J says, SKY +(or V+ if you are on Virgin Media) will not let you do this as they encypt the data.
Also - trying to copy to a video or DVD writer through a Scart socket will also fail as they have Macrovision protection on the data.
The only way you might be able to record it would be on an older VCR or a DVD recorder that would accept a component or S-Video connection (as this can;t be encypted)
Rubbish, eh?

Yes, rubbish as we've already paid for the effing thing.
I wanted to be able to cut through all the filler, which in a 7 hour prog will be a lot.
They can say watch the repeat but thats never quite the same, and when we pay for recording functions why should I have to be up at 9am or whenever it is.
I can't fathom why they'd do this - is it piracy somehow or other?
Not happy

PPV's are not supposed to be recordable but thats bollocks, a few years back i was taping all the big fights no problem.
From what you say it sounds to me that those mingy bast**** at Sky have Sky+ set up so that recording PPV's is not possible. If you have an old VCR or a normal DVD recorder you should be able to record it no problem!

What's a "normal" DVD recorder? I bought one a few months ago.ALI wrote:PPV's are not supposed to be recordable but thats bollocks, a few years back i was taping all the big fights no problem.

Maybe that's the key - good point. I think I'll have to stay up for 1am start to play around with it and make sure it is recording before I go to bed!Old bones Ian wrote:Without knowing the technicalities of SKY, if you can't program SKY+ to record, i've found the live pause can still kick in sometimes, therefore recording the program. Obviously i don't know if this will work for the Hatton fight on Saturday.
This geek forum suggests it can be done:

I’m going to ring sky tonight and see what they say
I’ll let you know

Okay here’s the deal if like me you have sky + and want to record the fight:
When it comes to ordering the event press ‘record’ rather than ‘select’. You then have 10 days to watch it before it disappears.
If like me you’ve already either pressed select or ordered over the phone then it won’t allow you to record it (for some obscure reason).
What you need to do is ring sky and get them to cancel the purchase then press record instead. At first they told me it wasn’t possible, that I could watch the repeats. After about 15 minutes of telling them that for my c£70 a month they could find a way to cancel it I finally got onto a manager who sorted it out.
On my sky planner it says something along the lines of 'this recording will be available until 18/12'.
Not sure if doing this prevents you from watching it in real time – but I guess I can just fast forward to the end of the recording at say 3am
Hope this helps
