Hattan & Mayweather in a scuffle

Post by Dirk Kelly »

Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but see the link to the BBC news story:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/7130030.stm

This is so unlike Hatton, and it suggests to me that Mayweather has got under his skin and/or he's worried about Sat.

Any thoughts?

Yeah Hatton did genuinely look p1ssed off. Not like him to be making a throat cutting gesture like that. I don't think he's nervous like Floyds claiming, just angry and wound up.

Its just a big worry for me if he is angry and wound up as he'll probably not be as focused on his game plan as he should and may rush out and tire very quickly meaning Mayweather will school him.

This is so unlike Ricky.

I don't think Floyds got under his skin, Hattons focussed and all business. I can't see any of this shit and giggles throwing Hatton off his gameplan.

Hopkins reckons Hattons gonna UD Floyd, thats where my moneys gone as well

I've taken his aggression as being more focused. As with the US odds makers, this fight is gonna be too close to call.

Hatton looks very focused - and the agression is good to see. I felt almost sorry for him on some of the earlier press tours - it was like he was overwhelmed by it all (not surprising though)

I just hope Ricky keeps his cool and can harness and contain it till they get in the ring. Nothing worse than being tired and too het up before you've even thrown a punch - that's my only worry about this.

In some ways I'd prefer to see him start slowly and blitz him down the straight. Nevada judges seem to prefer that.

Hopefully they continue their trend of rewarding the aggressor as well

Dunno, they didn't for the DLH fight (well, 2 judges didn't). I'm worried about the judges, as I can't find anywhere who they are.

Surely the biggest worry for Hatton fans is the ref not allowing Hatton to fight on the inside. This is the sort of fight where I can see Hatton getting docked a point or something for holding and then it will be a gift to PBF on the judges scorecards.

If Hatton wants to rough it up (legally) then he has to be allowed to – but if the ref is having done of it, it’ll play into Mayweather’s hands.

Cortez did fine in the Castillo fight, except for docking a point for Jose

I agree its a BIG worry, but the Hatton camp said they were happy with the choice of ref

Nothing to worry about, Hatton is far too level headed not to realise that the absolute worst thing he can do is to go in wound up & hell for leather against Floyd.

He's just pissed off with Floyd's non stop preening and talking himself up. He did the right thing there, pushing back at the crown prince, and ruffling his feathers a bit.

And there's no way in hell a clown like PBF is going to intimidate him, which is why Floyd has all those big lumps surrounding him and cheering him on.

Hatton has already faced up to a man who must be one of the most scary & intimidating fighters around: Eammon Magee.

he is a bit edgy when it comes to body punching, is cortez. can be a bit rash with deductions. always seemed to have it in for mike mccallum when he referred "the body snatcher."

Couldn't they find three neutral judges?

I don't think Hatton has any worries regarding the refs or judges. Its a bit worrying that both Hopkins and Golden Boy are picking Hatton. After all Oscar is trying to line up a fight next year with Hatton. It would be alot bigger fight with Hatton coming out victorious in this one. IMO if anyone should be worried. It would be Mayweather.

Yes, but Castillo wasn’t a P4P American champion fighting in America…

I accept Cortez did a good job in that fight, but you’re comparing apples and pears.

I agree. the Golden Boy machine seems firmly behind Hatton which must be slightly alarming for PBF.

I was thinking the same actually.

Wasn't very seriouse pushing though we aren't talking Lewis Tyson or anything its just the standard arjy barjy you get befor these things.

I think he needs to come out quite strong in the first round myself if he can stun or hurt floyed then he'll have a good chance of controling a lot of the rest of the fight.

No this is perfect.....its Mayweather who is rattled.

Hatton has laughed Mayweather's prickish behaviour off all the while during this promotion, but the time for joking has stopped and the fight face is now on. The antics of Mayweather were never going to be tolerated this close to fight time. Mayweather has tried all his mind games to get to Hatton and its been totally in vain. Ricky Hatton doesn't get intimidated, he thrives and fuels himself on this.

Technique, prospects of victory, money, profile etc aside

Hatton really does strike you as a right, good old fashioned hard bastard.

Thats at the very heart of it. Mayweather has tried to intimidate a guy who cannot be intimidated. Floyd's has gotten a taster of the unshakeable fortitude of Hatton and its left him rattled. At some point in the build up i think he expected to see a mental weakness in Hatton, and its simply never happened. Ricky is made of sterner stuff.

Yeah but Floyds same act never rattled Oscar either. I think Floyd does it more for the sake of attracting more ppv buys then he does to rattle Hatton.

If Hatton gets rattled by it then bonus if not, then its business as usual.
