Hatton is a 2/1 'dog' on Saturday but how many other Brits have upset the odds on foreign soil?

Honeyghan of course (not sure what price he was v Curry as was only a nipper).

Stracey - Napoles? (agin no idea about odds for that one)

Any others?

Honeyghan was a huge underdog v Curry, Lloyd was seen as a pretty much run of the mill Brit, while Curry was ranked as world P4P #2, behind Hagler, and a lot of people reckoned he was #1. Odds might have been as much as 20-1?

Lloyd upset the odds in Italy as well, KOing favored Euro king Rossi.

Colin Jones nearly pulled it off in the USA, and looked unlucky to only get a draw against favored Milt McCrory.

And David Haye of course.

Not quite America, but Ken Buchanan beating Ismael Laguna for the lightweight title is a great win for a Brit abroad - Laguna was very highly rated back in the day

Beating an excellent fighter like laguna in the blistering heat really puts into perspective McGuigan failing against ordinary Cruz.

Buchanan was a monster and really unlucky to be around at the same time as Duran.

McAvoy vs. Risko the world MW champion, 1st rnd KO - Ring Magazine reports Jock McAvoy 'destroys' MW champion falling him 6 times in just over 2mins...

this fight was so much a shock to the Americans that ol' Jock was denied a shot at the title, yet they let him go for the L-HW title against none other than John Henry Lewis which he did over the distance, being the much, much smaller man about 4 inches shorter.

anyway given the era, I think Mac's destruction of Risko and excellent showing against John Henry Lewis supersedes many of those that followed him.

Maybe it was 8-1 Williams, 1-20 Tyson, something like that. Odds fluctuate, too. I don't think I ever saw Danny as high as 20-1, but certainly he was in double figures at some stage.

Has there ever been a "great" fighter who lost in more HUGE upsets than Tyson?

Nigel was a massive underdog against DeWitt (who was in the best form of his career against Robbie Sims and Matthew Hilton), he smashed him to pieces, ofcourse..

I’m not trying to run down Buchanan’s excellent win over Ismael Laguna but that was in New York at the MSG during September so blistering heat would not have been a factor, whereas McGuigan had to fight outdoors in the Las Vegas desert in June, where it certainly was.

I was originally referring to Buchanan beating Laguna in Puerto Rico, not his title defence which wasnt such a big surprise as hed already won the first fight
