Actor/Boxers
DEVIL'S BRIGADE (1968) was a non-boxing film with many boxers in it, director Andrew McLaglen must have used some of his father Victor's boxing connections. Gene Fullmer, as the Bartender, might have got the most screen time of the boxing contingent. Also appearing were Fullmer's somewhat lesser-known brother Don, Rex Layne and Wilhelm von Homburg (as a German officer obviously). Even footballer Paul Hornung was a lumberjack.
Among those who were more famous for their acting, former boxers Dean Martin (as mentioned) and Robert Mitchum faced off with each other (guns not fists IIRC) in FIVE CARD STUD. Also, like his HARD TIMES character, Charles Bronson was said to have been a fighter at one time. Whether this was in a ring or as a street/alley brawler (as in HT) I'm not sure. Archie Moore, pursuing an acting career after retirement from boxing, of course was in BREAKHEART PASS with Bronson.
Muhammad Ali and Jack Dempsey, both more or less portraying themselves, were the two heavyweight champs in the REQUIEM FOR A HEAVYWEIGHT motion picture.

Breland was in 'Lords of Discipline', and was very convincing. Mando Muniz has also done a bit of acting. I saw Carlos Palomino in an episode of "Hill St Blues" and he was excellent.
A question I've always wanted answered is this. Jack O'Halloran, the 70's heavyweight, looks remarkably like that Jaws character in the Bond movies. Is it him?

Jack O'Halloran acted in Superman 1 & 2 and King Kong in 1976. As far as I know, he didn't have a part in any James Bond movie.

Jack Dempsey. According to an old Swedish boxing magazine from 1922 (wich I sold) he played the major part in a Pathe-movie titled Jack Derry.
The story inspired Edwin Ahlquist, (Ingemar Johansson's promotor), to write many novels for his own magazine, Rekord.
It would interesting to know more about that motion picture, but I don't have the magazine anymore.
Ingemar Johansson himself, played a part in the movie "All the young men", 1960, starring Alan Ladd and Sidney Poitier.
Incidently, just reading about former pro light heavyweight Billy Doerner.
After his boxing career and with the Metropolian Police Department in Washington, DC, he became a succesful TV actor. He also played parts in the pictures, "A Name to Yourself" and "Public Enemy No. 1".
He was a hot candidate to play Jack Dempsey in a Hollywood Movie on the Manassa Mauler. Wether he got the part or not, the article can't tell.

The Feb. 16, 1964 "The Ed Sullivan Show" might qualify. That show virtually always originated out of NYC, but this week it was broadcast from Miami Beach. As I mentioned in another thread some time ago:
When The Beatles appeared for the second time on the Sullivan Show, Feb. 16, 1964, from Miami Beach, Florida, Sonny Liston and Joe Louis were seated together in the audience, and were introduced by Sullivan. They stood up and acknowledged the welcome.
Later on the show, the comedy team of Allen & Rossi did a boxing skit, and they mentioned at several times in the skit both Rocky Marciano and Cassius Clay. Then Marty Allen donned a Beatles wig and did a dance.
When Ed Sullivan introduced The Beatles for the last three of their six songs on this show, he spoke to Sonny Liston, and said The Beatles had two songs for him and Clay: "From Me to You" and "I Wanna Hold Your Hand."

Sonny Liston On Sullivan
Sonny Liston also appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show after he won the title. He skipped rope to James Brown's version of Night Train. Liston also appeared in episodes of Love American Style and The Monkees.
By the way, Ric, the Sullivan Shows where The Beatles made their first three appearances are now available on DVD.
Ali was on the Sullivan show as well in 1970 during his draft exile and sang a song called We Came In Chains from an off-broadway show he was doing at the time called Buck White. He wore a large afro wig and a fake beard for the part. The Ali-Marciano computer fight was going to be shown in theaters nationwide later that week and Ali urged fans to go and see it because it would be that last time anyone would ever see him in the ring.
