ROGER MAYWEATHER

Post by MightyWarrior »

Floyd's trainer: The Black Mamba - one of the most ferocious punchers seen in the last 20 years. This is him defending his World Jr lightweight title against Rocky Lockridge.

Check out Roger coming into the ring wearing dark glasses, and one of the most shocking and sudden one round KO's you'll ever see 8) :TU:

He was a very good fighter, good boxer and with a good punch, ...his weaknesses were his temprement and a less than great chin. His fight with Vinnie Pazienza was a really wild affair....

"less than great"???

I would put Roger M squarely in the "glass jaw" category. He just couldn't take a hard punch to the chin.

Nice find there, Rob :TU:

An old NBC show with Marv Albert commentating who for me was the best for pure excitement.

Roger was called the black mamba due to his long hard right and his massive reach. Kill or be killed was his motto.

Rocky Lockridge was another exciting fighter, remember his demo of Barry Michael on ITV?

Didnt Lockridge go 15 with Chavez? , and beat La Porte after Mcguigan did?

For some stupid reason I though Rog had a decent chance at upsetting Chavez before their second fight. I thought he'd be better and stronger at the higher weight. How wrong I was  :D

Roger was a one dimensional fighter. He had a decent wallop, but limited skills, especially on defense. :TU: I was a fan of his back in the day. :-?

Roger Mayweather was very good technically, but he didn't have a particularly good chin. A fight manager who knew him, told me he was also very unpredictable and unreliable, and a fighter he'd never want to manage.

..i used to like uncle roger. as written here, totally unpredictable. surprised no one has commented on that left jab of his. really a fast snapping and hard one. the trouble was he tended to reach with it and he often got countered because of it. fun to watch though.
