Yuba Retained Japanese Welterweight Title

Post by KSTAT124 »

Joe Koizumi reported yesterday that Japanese welterweight champion Tadashi Yuba (now 32-4-2 with 23 wins by KO) retained his title by knocking out previously unbeaten challenger Ushiwakamara Akibei (16-1, 15 KOs) at 1:30 of the first round. The challenger floored Yuba first but the champion rose to score two knockdowns of his own, the second of which resulted in Akibei being counted out. Both fighters weighed in at 146 3/4 for the fight.

On the undercard, super featherweight Ryota Kajiki (10-3, 7 KOs), weighing 130, knocked out Primus Phyton (AKA Primus Piton; 127 3/4) at 2:16 of the 2nd round. Koizumi reported that "Piton" fell to 14-7-2 with 5 KOs. He is currently listed as 0-2 on BoxRec. (Phyton is Indonesian which may explain why many of his fights have gone unreported.)

I see the results of the above December 6 bouts have not yet been entered.

Mr. Koizumi's report appeared on FightNews.com as does another of his reports regarding two other bouts that took place on December 8, also in Tokyo:

Champion Kenji Yoshida (112; 13-6, 5 KOs)
Unan. Dec. 10 (97-94, 98-96, 99-94)
Tsunejiro Sato (112; 10-4, 2 KOs)

Featherweight Bout-
Kazunori Takayama (126; 12-4-4, 3 KOs)
KO-4 0:47
Rikiya Fukuhara (126; 20-3-1, 16 KOs)

Besides the 4 bouts listed above, here are additional results from Tokyo:

Monday, December 10:

Light Flyweight Bout-
Junichiro Kaneda (106 3/4; 17-3, 11 KOs)
Unan. Dec. 10 (97-94, 97-94, 98-96)
Takumi Suda (8-3-1, 2 KOs)

Bout fought just above the flyweight limit-
Takahisa Masuda (113; 17-7-3, 4 KOs)
Unan. Dec. 10 (99-92, 100-92, 99-93)
Wido Paez (112 1/2; 18-7-5, 7 KOs as per FightNews; 18-8-3, 7 KOs as per NotiFight.com; not including this fight, BoxRec lists Paez as 2-4-2, 0 KOs)

Note: Joe Koizumi only identified Kaneda's opponent as "Suda" in his FightNews report; NotiFight reported it was Takumi Suda and listed his record as what's shown above.

Also note: Mr. Koizumi wrote that Paez is the reigning Indonesian flyweight champion.

Thanks for updating the results regarding Yuba-Akibei, Yoshida-Sato, and Takayama-Fukuhara.

Just a reminder- Kajiki-Phyton (AKA Piton), Kaneda-Suda, and Masuda-Paez still have to be entered.

And a hearty congratulations to the main source of those results, Joe Koizumi, for being chosen for induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
