Isn't it scary... these seminal moments....
I see it as starkly as this...... Either:
1) Hatton wins, goes down as the best british fighter of our era and everyone will continue to swallow that 'boy next door guff' for eternity. We will be stuck with it.
or....
2) Mayweather schools him a la Barrera and he goes down as another Hamed.
Please number 2! I can't bear this spin anymore! Did you see the weigh-in? Who have you come to see? 'Me?'. What has happened to Ricky? He used to be most respectful fighter I'd known.

Mayweather has got uner his skin, i just hope to god ricky doesnt want to smash his face in too much if you know what i mean cause that could lead to him being sloppy and rushing in too much. Floyd has sorts done what he set out to do, and i dont like saying this cause im a MASSIVE Hatton fan but Hatton seems genuinly pissed off with him, weather hes just really focused or pissed off i cannot tell. He wants to kick the shit out of Floyd but i hope he doesnt want to do it too much if you know what i mean? :P

I think Hatton is subconsciously firing himself up because he's afraid of PBF's movement. To win this fight, he MUST draw Mayweather into a brawl. Problem is that if Floyd hates you he doesn't wade in - he's too clever for that. He knows that the sweetest revenge is humiliation at range, from angles.
I believe it's Floyd's fight to lose. That will only happen if he starts feeling the sense of occasion and decides to attempt an attacking showcase. However... He's never lost his cool yet, and he's fought some pretty dirty customers.
Mayweather has an ego but it doesn't drive his actions in the ring; that was Hamed.

1) He's grateful to his fans for showing up, especially as the fight is in Vegas.Maelstrom wrote:Please number 2! I can't bear this spin anymore! Did you see the weigh-in? Who have you come to see? 'Me?'. What has happened to Ricky? He used to be most respectful fighter I'd known.
2) He wants Floyd to know that he has support even, of all places, in Mayweather's backyard.
I really don't think he has become arrogant over night. He's pumped up.

After all the title fights Mayweather has been in, I'd be surprised if he takes Hatton's bait.
He's one of the most calculating fighters I've ever seen, especially since he's gone up in weight.
What I think will be interesting is how Mayweather has got used to fighting bigger guys and he's had all the speed. Judah gave him problems, so did DeCorley, but they could only maintain it for a few rounds.
Now he's fighting someone who's smaller and while Hatton isn't close in the handspeed department, he's not a plodder like Baldomir or Castillo.
I just think that all-round Mayweather's better than Ricky, who will give him problems, but fall short on points, or suffer cuts early which make him chase the fight, which will just make it easier for Mayweather.
Just got this feeling Ricky's going to be too pumped up early and get a silly cut and then gradually get pecked and poked and stopped in about 8 rounds.

I know how you feel because I used to hate Barry McGuigan, his fans and all the 'uniting the divided communities' crap that would come with his boxing. Thats not to say that I thought at the time Barry McGuigan was a fraud, he wasn't, he was a very good fighter... but other factors outside the ring were instumental in me cheering like a madman at 4am when Steve Cruz walloped him in the last round to take his world title off him.Maelstrom wrote:I see it as starkly as this...... The excuses about climate that he made afterwards didn't make it any easier to start liking him (not that I ever did)
In hindsight, McGuigan is a nice, honest, decent chap. I wish I could have felt different about him when he was fighting.

Yes, all the boy next door talk has become boring, but only because we've been subjected to so much of it. Hatton has reached a level I didn't think was possible for a British fighter in the post-Benn/Eubank/Hamed days. He deserves a pat on the back for putting British boxing back in the mainstream.

Yes, but everyone knew how it was going to be in Vegas. McGuigan should have acclimatised better and he didn't. The fight didn't happen midday when the sun is at it's most fierce, if I remember rightly I stayed up till 2am to watch the fight so the first bell would have rung around 4pm Vegas time... which tricks the story up a little.DIRT SUGAR wrote:McGuigan was carted off to hospital suffering from dehydration so I don't think there were any excuses. I think even Cruz himself said he wondered what McGuigan's team were thinking of letting him fight in the afternoon sun.

Johnny Nelson comes out with some bizzare stuff....why does he think Floyd will be having doubts as the fight approaches? What gives him that idea?
I don't think you could find a more confident man than Floyd, who sees himself as a genuine, unbeatable superman. This is a guy who's been in with the very best for years - Corrales, De La Hoya - why is he going to have doubts facing Hatton all of a sudden?
He's as confident as ever.
The only way he'll have doubts is if Hatton starts to catch him with damaging punches, until then he sees this as game over.

Don't think its Junior dispite having plenty of reson to realy hate Hatton he's acted with total class over this fight. Makes me proud to be Yorkshire.states wrote:Maelstrom wrote:I see it as starkly as this...... Either:

Probably because you can't take a dig at a man who is putting his rep on the line against the best P4P fighter without drawing negative attention onto yourself.hamsterpoo wrote:i agree witter has acted with class when talking on this fight, i think everyone expected him to take another dig at hatton but he did anything but that
Of late he has been saying that he just wants to get on with his own carrer while hatton has been a bit of an arse.Cannibal wrote:Probably because you can't take a dig at a man who is putting his rep on the line against the best P4P fighter without drawing negative attention onto yourself.hamsterpoo wrote:i agree witter has acted with class when talking on this fight, i think everyone expected him to take another dig at hatton but he did anything but that
