anyway, they were just doing their thing to support Hatton. seems like the Yank commentators took it badly but Yanks can e a bit OTT about things.lowersmiths wrote:come on autobahn, those morons boo every other national anthem no matter what the circumstances.
let's be fair too. it's not ''football dickheads'' as most people who follow football are decent people too. it's just british dickhead scum.
i'm pleased hatton spoke out about it afterwards.

My take on this is - there is no way I would boo any countries national anthem -
However - Vegas, Golden Boy and co knew what they were getting when Hatton is rolling into town with his fans -
On the flip side of the coin - lots of money spent, the brass over there would have been shagged sensless, the place would have been drunk dry, lots of memorabilia sold, a fantastic atmosphere etc etc etc
The Americans cannot have all the cake!!!

they were genuinely shocked by it, because no other country acts like it. it's easy to think it is normal when you are british, but it isn't. from the outside looking in, it is a fornicating disgrace.Autobarn wrote:anyway, they were just doing their thing to support Hatton. seems like the Yank commentators took it badly but Yanks can e a bit OTT about things.lowersmiths wrote:come on autobahn, those morons boo every other national anthem no matter what the circumstances.

being respectful for two minutes wouldnt have hurt though, would it? now people are talking about this again when it shouldnt even be an issue.Spud wrote:My take on this is - there is no way I would boo any countries national anthem -

British fans in Vegas have their uses - mainly money and atmosphere they bring - we cannot then complain over the top about the bad points.
booing any anthem is poor taste no matter who does it. As far as you being ashamed to be British well don't be. We yanks as you choose to call us understand there are people everywhere who have bad manners. Trust me on this I can line up just as many poor mannered yanks as you can British. So lets not let the bad mannered people who think it is Ok to disrespect somebody as support take away from a big event.lowersmiths wrote:booing the US anthem was disgraceful. there is absolutely no need for it and it made me ashamed to be british.
the idiots that do it think they are being patriotic, they are being nothing of the sort. they just make people think brits are mindless morons with no respect.
somebody needs to make an issue of this and get the crowd to act in a more british manner. it doesnt happen with any other crowd.
The fact is Hatton is the worlds best fighter at 140 he ran out of people to fight there was nobody in the world left to fight. He tried once before to move to 147 and did not have much luck he did win the fight but he decided to go back to 140 where he should fight.
Pompus twat get in the real world. Its just passion and peoples inability to hold there beer. Alot of people got to hate Floyd for the way he went on what were you expecting? Them to all blow kisses at him? Stop being so fannyish, upper class ponce.search wrote:it was an absolute disgrace and they should be ashamed of themselves. thank god hatton got embarrassingly knocked out, otherwise they would be talking all sorts of sh*te

i cant see your point mate, we are not talking about a tin pot little holiday destination here who needs our cash so they should turn a blind eye to british boorishness like some poor med countries have to.Spud wrote:My personal view is that I agree with you - but I honestly believe we are in a politcally correct world that has gone f*cking nuts.lowersmiths wrote:being respectful for two minutes wouldnt have hurt though, would it? now people are talking about this again when it shouldnt even be an issue.Spud wrote:My take on this is - there is no way I would boo any countries national anthem -

we are talking about the richest most powerful nation that has ever existed, i`m sure their economy doesnt swing on how many brown mixes or milds are drunk on a particular weekend.
i`m absolutely positive that those brits over there would have been shown the utmost respect and courtesy by their american hosts, 2 minutes of reciprocated respect isnt asking much when you are guests in someone elses country.
in 1940, 2 years before america officially joined the war people cheered when the stars and stripes ran the gauntlet of u-boats and the north atlantic winter to sail up the mersey and clyde, saving us from starvation.
now we enjoy their hospitality and boo them in their own back yard, nice.
Lets not be too precious over the American national anthem, the booing is just a bit of 'banter' there was nothing really malicious in it and the fans were good sports after Ricky lost and even cheered Mayweather as he left the ring... as for being guests in someone elses country I believe they all paid quite a bit to be there!... Vegas relies a lot on the Brits going there and throwing their money away on the tables and fruit machines etc... also Americans themselves can be quite obnoxious when they are in other peoples countries, so to be so peeved over a few booing Brits is rather silly imo.... nice to see em getting some of their own medicine for a change I think!...

Football hooligan fraternity? Your acting like British boxing fans are a classy bunch. Maybe the small minority who go to lot's of shows are, but the large majority of boxing fans and football fans are one and the same.Syntax Error wrote:Sadly, this fight seems to have attracted the football hooligan fraternity.
The majority of them know little about boxing & have jumped on this massive Ricky Hatton bandwagon that has been rolling around the UK.
The majority of them have probably hardly ever seen any of Ricky's fights & are only there for the ride.
I wanted Ricky to win, but I always felt that it would be a tall order & an upset if he did win.
There's been an embarrassing post fight phone-in on Talksport & the majority of callers have been shocked that Mayweather is actually a very good fighter.!![]()

you thought that it was FUNNY! you are a fuckin moron! Yea all those Americans booing national anthems it is time they had their anthem booed.silkov wrote:Lets not be too precious over the American national anthem, the booing is just a bit of 'banter' there was nothing really malicious in it and the fans were good sports after Ricky lost and even cheered Mayweather as he left the ring... as for being guests in someone elses country I believe they all paid quite a bit to be there!... Nobody ever talks about the money they spent or any of their other actions during the time they were there. It is almost as if booing the anthem is more directed at an entire group of people and not just the fight or the fighters.
Who are all these people who think that booing a countries anthem is more than just banter? I only have one thing to say to these people.
You are right.
Maybe its a cultural thing or something, ...Americans seem to have almost a mother fixation on their national anthem, I cant imagine many Brits frothing at the mouth over a few yanks booing our anthem!... after all we put up with these guys coming over here and fecking up our transport system without a murmur, ....theres far worse things you can do to someone than just boo their anthem!!....tomkatt wrote:Yea all those Americans booing national anthems it is time they had their anthem booed.silkov wrote:Lets not be too precious over the American national anthem, the booing is just a bit of 'banter' there was nothing really malicious in it and the fans were good sports after Ricky lost and even cheered Mayweather as he left the ring... as for being guests in someone elses country I believe they all paid quite a bit to be there!... Yes, and you can bet the same guys doing it or condoning it would be the first to be outraged and demand "show some f'n respect" if it was another country's supporters booing our anthem.lowersmiths wrote:not surprised, just saddened by it.
some of the replies on here are the perfect illustration of why it happens. ''just a bit of banter'' is always the excuse, but it isnt banter at all - it is just being a disrespectful pudendum.

Bollocks!... I wouldnt give a toss if some yanks came over here and booed our anthem a bit, ....an anthem is just an anthem for Christsakes!... why take it so seriously?... if the fans had been unruly or violent or something like that then thats totally different, but a little booing of the anthem is childs play really and with all the things going on in the world today its absurd to get so wound up about it...oliverfennell wrote:Yes, and you can bet the same guys doing it or condoning it would be the first to be outraged and demand "show some f'n respect" if it was another country's supporters booing our anthem.lowersmiths wrote:not surprised, just saddened by it.

and that, folks, is the moron's viewpoint in a nutshell. the best thing is he doesn't even realise what is wrong with his behaviour and has absolutely no perception of how other's view his actions.silkov wrote:Bollocks!... If you wish to boo our NATIONAL anthem go right ahead, if you wish to burn our flag go right ahead.
However I will not take it as just banter or sports. These are symbols of our nation.
I will not take it as a representation of England or the British people. Nor will I ever do it to you. I will take it as it is disrespect for our national symbols. I know you can not understand that but many of your fellow Brits can and do. So to them I say I know this in no way represents the British people or the country of England for which I have great respect.
It might surprise you to know the American press has not even mentioned the booing had I not heard about it on here, I would not have known until next week when the fight is on HBO where I can watch it.
As for boxing I was disappointed to hear Hatton lost, I sure wanted somebody the shut Mayweathers mouth for once. I think a lot of his talk is to see tickets, but I sure would like him shut up. Hatton is the best fighter in the world at 140 his moves to 147 have proven not to be the best career moves. Is there a big payday for him left at 140 though this is a business he is trying to make money at the same time. I would have loved to have seen a Gatti Vs Hatton fight now that would have been exciting.

why are you on this thread?
But it is banter, theres nothing malicious behind it. Had I been there myself I wouldnt have booed because I think it is childish, but what you have to realise about many British men is that after they have a few beers they can be a little childish and blow of steam, its in the natinal character I think. But to make such a big thing of it and be so offended is just silly. I'm glad that the press isnt making a big thing of it.
As for Mayweather he's just selling tickets when he plays up to his bad guy image, its a shame that he cant sell tickets on his talent alone because he is the best boxer since Leonard and should be appreciated, ...he's going to be missed if he doesnt fight again...
