Thanks Dennis, To answer one question Danny Jacobs missed weigh in due to
over sleeping. I can't imagine some one missing to double checking on him. To this day I still feel for how the poor kid must have felt. I can only imagine. But he did say he learned a lesson about taking responsibility for yourself in those situations and the value of a good alarm clock. By the way Cograts to Both Dannys and Dynomite, they are all good kids and great fighters........Hey I can call them fighters now that they are not amateurs anymore, can't I?

Sheesh - I didn't get my usual notification that a reply had been posted - but maybe I only get those when it's an intelligent reply....... :o

Pro = fight, fighter, fighting, fought.
Amateur = boxing, bout, boxer, boxed.

Never the twain shall meet.

A rose by any color. That was the brain child of whom ever thought that was the way to put a soccer mom face on the sport of boxing. So far It's had a huge impact on the sport as seen by the large number of ivy league school members. Now maybe it's time to try a new strategy of the day, and call us strikers. ....I'll bet you didn't get a notice of that one either did you Mel? :D Dennis I think we have her in the crossfire.

To score or to hit.
To RSC or to KO.

Yes, boxing is appeasing the masses. We are on all the network stations and getting huge audiences whenever we put on shows in the upscale neighborhoods.

Maybe the minimalist approach would work better. That is why AIBA is thinking about the no headgear rule.

Nope - there must be some sort of conspiracy.
Dennis I think we have her in the crossfire.
Nope - too old for that.

I got all the stuff from the annual meeting in the mail yesterday. I'll take some time and put it on my web site - probably over the weekend. Nothing earthshattering, just information for those who didn't attend.

I'm not surprised Ronny is turning pro and it's probably true. His coach, and others, are very bitter over his losing at the Trials. I've tried to talk to them, but to no avail. He's only been boxing for 3+ years. Can you imagine what he'd be like in another 4 years if he stuck around? Oh well. :o

Ronny Rios

Post by hlopez »

it's not that we are bitter, trust me we have moved on. The trials were a bit frustrating and anybody that was there knows that Ronny beat Gary. That said why should we stick around for 4 more years?? Untill USA Boxing cleans there act more fighters will go pro or compete for other country's!!!!

Well my first suggestion would be to have more National and International tournaments so more boxers have a chance to be seen and not claim to get "robbed" by more well known boxers. Second i would have training camps for boxers to attend to learn olympic style boxing and not semi-pro boxing. That is the main reason for some of the problems in international competition. Third there has to be a way to make it easier to stay in the amatuer ranks, one way is to have boxing programs in colleges. I was taught from day one to "fight" as a pro and never to box as a amatuer even though I had some sucess I would have loved to train as an amatuer in Colorado or wherever to learn the ins and outs of the amatuer game . But I do think with this class that the USA should get at least 5 medals.

Clarence - We all agree that there should be more competitions for more boxers to get a chance to showcase their skills. Not just a hand picked few.

5 medals - I hope you are correct.
