Calzaghe out of contract?

Post by boxingchatter »

Heard in Vegas that Joe is out of contract with Fwank and listening to direct offer from Golden Boy promotions for June Hopkins fight.

I say he should take it, but fight Woods in the interim to get used to extra weight.

War Calzaghe! Hope he murders that racist boring git!

Joe seems a loyal, sensible kind of bloke.

I dont know anything about his contract, but I think it would be a silly move to leave allegedly.

Warren has done a fantastic job for Joe. Delivered him huge fights in Lacy and Kessler, whilst retaining him home advantage. Great job as manager and promoter. Stick with who you know, is my view.

If someone like John Conteh had Warren as manager, Conteh may have been as revered as Calzaghe as an all-time great.

Hell, I think Warren even offered Charlie Magri £60,000 to fight Keith Wallace about 25 years ago. He comes up with the goods again and again.

You'd think Joe would stay with Warren. They have justified themsevles in the last 2 years.

If Joe were to go to America for Hopkins, does anyone think he'd do it with a new team? Not me. Warren is experienced with this. Promoters as much as anyone - trainers, fighters - help win the fights and I couldn't see Joe going over for a fight of such magnitude with a different bloody promoter.

This would be a GBP show, and we all know about some of the scores that house fighters get on there. GBP have never even had a foothold in the middleweight and super middle divisions - look at Ikeke and Andrade - and there's no way you go up vs a big outfit like that without covering everything with the ppl you work so well with.

I agree, you only have to look at the Enzo Calzaghe influence as well....

Joe isn't going to leave FW and take his dad with him, and then have Enzo C go back to Warren with all his other boxers - Rees, Enzo Mac, Lockett etc..

doesn't make sense..

Golden Boy aren't going to take the lot of them on

I'll bet Warren will give GBP nightmares in negotiations, and it might be absolutely necessary. You only need to see Robin Reid vs Lacy on a Gary Shaw show) to see how a fighter who hasn't gone over with all bases covered fares.

What is this nonsense about B-Hop being a racist. So what if he said he would never lose to a white boxer (or words to that effect). Why does that make him a racist?

Exactly. You wouldnt send Warren in to fight Hopkins would you.

Leave the boxing to Calzaghe and the promotion management packaging and negotiations to Warren.

Its the only way Calzaghe can train with peace of mind that everything out of his hands is taken care of.

Golden Boy will want Hopkins to win. Christ he is a Director of the company isnt he?

Calzaghe wins the fight comfortably with his usual team of his Dad and Warren.

Splitting the team is a recipe for sporting and financial disaster.

Hopkins is indeed one of the the Main Men at Golden Boy alongside Oscar, Shane Mosley and Marco Antonio Barrera.
