It was obvious this was going to happen. I cannot believe people didn't see it coming.
Hennessy trys to make the moral high ground by making an offer which he knew full well wasnt going to be accepted for exactly the same reasons why he would have refused any counter offer from Maloney. Both promoters receive good money from their respective TV broadcasters, and as such their top fighters fighting on another channel would be unacceptable.
It is typical Hennessy behaviour to withdraw his fighter from any purse bid situation, he knew full well that was the only way this fight could have taken place and the losing TV station would have found it acceptable.
Hennessy has one fighter, Tyson Fury who is keeping him on TV. As soon as Fury is knocked out that will be the end of Hennessy.

Every fighter in Britian would like that kind of audience.Exoddus wrote:Why take £100,000 from Hennessey if he was going to get more from his own promoter let alone the others? It's dog eat dog and purse bidding enables the boxers and their team the best possible wage. As the highest bidder wins.keithmoonhangover wrote:Price should have taken the fight for £100,000. If he beats Fury (which I don't think he will), then he gets MASSIVE exposure on 5.
Big mistake by Price not taking the fight.
If £100,000 was the best offer (which is wasn't going to be). Why didn't Hennessey wait for the outcome of the purse bids? Because he purposely low-balled the other promoters to make sure his offer was rejected.
Fury (more likely his team) has ducked Price. I know you're a Fury supporter but there's nothing you can say to defend this. Your post about taking the £100,000 makes no sense. As the only way to guarantee a boxer the highest pay possible is to let it go to purse bids. Does David Price really need the channel 5 exposure ? I don't think so. Not with his Commonwealth games, Olympic games and his amateur background. He's not short of fights that will gain him exposure. Sexton is on the cards for him now. Once he beats Sexton I'll imagine he'll fight Dereck Chisora. Who by then would be a "world title challenger".
Re: Tyson Fury Vacates Titles.
FW saw the sense in letting his boxer, Chisora, fight on a Hennessy bill on Ch5. The loss didn't do Chisora any harm, EBU title fight and now a world title fight.
Re: Tyson Fury Vacates Titles.
Price, and any other boxer not yet at British titlist level should welcome terrestrial exposure, if only for a fight or two. Price in particular, given his inactivity, has a bit of catching up to do.
Re: Tyson Fury Vacates Titles.
There is a shop at the bottom of my estate (in a small village in Ireland) who prides himself on being family owned for 2 generations, part of the community blah blah blah but in reality the owner is as much of a capitalist as Lord Sainsbury, intent is as important as level in this respect. It is not unusual to go in and see coke from a multipack being sold singularly, plus he will sell beer to housewives with alcohol problems and 14 year old kids openly and back on topic, i think Fury would never have dodged this fight, one which he could relatively easily win at this stage. Fury needs to ditch Hennessy, get a serious trainer and get away from the shit heads he is knocking about with, he is a really good fighter with good technical skill, fast hands etc. With a decent trainer he would have ironed out his flaws by now (tendency to drop right hand, arm punch) so imho, this is a political decision outside Tyson's remit, pity, i like Fury.

Fury said in the press conference today that come the night of the fight he will have been away from the family for 15 weeks through hard training. What money that Fury gets on the scales at the weigh in looking like a bag of shit?
